I-CAR Kicks Off National Apprenticeship Week 2026
I-CAR, a key player in the automotive collision repair industry, proudly begins National Apprenticeship Week from April 26 to May 2, 2026, with significant proclamations from both the State of Illinois and the Village of Hoffman Estates. This recognition underscores the importance of registered apprenticeships in cultivating a skilled workforce for the future.
The Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has officially declared April 26 to May 2 as National Apprenticeship Week 2026. In addition, Mayor William D. McLeod of Hoffman Estates affirmed the significance of apprenticeships, promoting the shared commitment of local industry and government to develop the next generation of skilled technicians. These honors come shortly after I-CAR launched its U.S. Department of Labor-registered Apprenticeship Program in July 2025, a pioneering step in addressing the skill shortage in the collision repair sector.
The program is expertly designed to bridge aspiring professionals with paid, practical training. Participants work alongside seasoned mentors, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience that includes structured classroom instruction and progressive wage increases. Offering nationally recognized credentials, this program enables apprentices to carry their qualifications throughout their careers.
A noteworthy highlight is that over 62% of the enrolled apprentices are aged between 16 and 24, indicating a strong focus on nurturing youthful talent. By providing essential training and mentorship, I-CAR is paving the way to a robust future for the automotive repair industry.
The organization prides itself on being situated in a community that recognizes the transformative power of apprenticeship. This week, I-CAR is not only celebrating the proclamations from Governor Pritzker and Mayor McLeod but is also honoring the mentors and apprentices whose efforts are critical in shaping a skilled workforce. Their success stories and milestones will be shared on various social media platforms to inspire more individuals to consider a career in collision repair.
As a not-for-profit organization established in 1979, I-CAR is dedicated to meeting the evolving educational needs within the collision repair industry. By improving the quality and safety of auto repair, I-CAR aims for the betterment of both the industry and its consumers.
