Upcoming Seminar: Exploring SDGs
As the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) approaches, an important event is set to unfold that aims to inspect the progress made toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from multiple perspectives. This hybrid seminar, titled "Current Status of SDGs: Considering Japan's VNR from Diverse Stakeholder Perspectives," will be hosted by the
SDGs Citizen Society Network in Japan on
June 23, 2025, from
15:00 to 16:30.
Seminar Overview
With the Japanese government preparing to submit its third voluntary national review (VNR) of SDGs progress to the UN this July since 2021, the timing for this event is crucial. Two key players in the private sector, who contributed to developing the VNR, will share insights about the current state of SDGs, discussing both challenges and recommendations for the future governance of sustainability in Japan. This seminar provides an excellent opportunity to engage with various stakeholders about the collaborative actions needed to advance the SDGs.

Your Voice Shapes the Future of SDGs
This seminar invites anyone interested in SDGs, as well as those wishing to bring a civilian perspective into policy-making. Engaging in dialogue is key; this event encourages not only knowledge sharing but connection that may lead to subsequent actions. As the HLPF presentation date nears, it is an opportune moment to reflect on Japan’s position regarding SDGs together. We are looking forward to your participation!
Background of the Seminar
In light of the increasing global socio-economic insecurities, taking action with hope is vital for promoting a sustainable society. In July 2025, the Japanese government is set to present the
VNR2025 (Voluntary National Review 2025), created in cooperation with the private sector of the SDGs Promotion Council, at the HLPF.
Preceding this event, SDGs Japan plans to publish its
SDGs Spotlight Report 2025 in February. At the seminar, the two invited private sector representatives will discuss their sector-specific endeavors and hurdles in advancing SDGs. Through this session, we aim to explore how diverse actors—such as citizens, businesses, cooperatives, and government—can work together within the remaining five and a half years to realize the SDGs.
