Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre is excited to announce a unique opportunity for performers: auditions for the upcoming collaboration between acclaimed choreographer
Romance Hashimoto and contemporary artist
Saeborg. This brand new performance is scheduled to premiere at the
Theatre East from February 11 to February 15, 2026. All aspiring artists and performers are invited to apply!
Project Overview
In this groundbreaking performance, Hashimoto and Saeborg unite their creative visions, bringing together Hashimoto's socially engaged choreography with Saeborg's eccentric body suit performances. Saeborg is known for crafting his own latex body suits and embodying distinctive characters, which often challenge conventional identity norms. This performance will not only focus on movement but also on the interaction between performers and the audience, creating a space for communication that transcends words.

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule

Rehearsals: January 20 – February 5, 2026, at various locations in Tokyo (weekdays evenings for three hours, weekends up to eight hours)

Performance Dates: February 6 – 10, 2026, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre

Show Dates: February 11 – 15, 2026, including six performances over five days.

Audition Requirements
- Seeking a few performers to wear latex suits taking on roles such as livestock (pigs, cows, etc.) for interactive performances.
- Performers should be between 152cm and 164cm tall and at least 20 years old by January 20, 2026.
- No experience necessary, making this an excellent opportunity for those curious about performance art.
- Performers must be comfortable wearing latex body suits, which provide a unique experience of compression and may have some restricted breathing.
- Must be available for the entire rehearsal and performance schedule.
- Only those who can work legally in Japan during the specified period may apply.

Application Process
- Candidates should complete the application form available on the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre's website with details including their name, contact information, height, and a recent full-body photo.
- Applications are due by 23:59 on July 8, 2025. Candidates selected for the second round will be contacted by July 23.
- The second round will consist of practical auditions on August 22 and 23, 2025, held in Tokyo.

Compensation
- Those selected to participate will receive a payment of 100,000 JPY (including taxes) after the completion of all performances.
- Travel and accommodation costs will be the responsibility of the participants.
About the Artists
Romance Hashimoto
Born in 1995 in Tokyo, Hashimoto employs conceptual methods to explore themes of minority politics, queer activism, and decolonization through their choreography. Their work has been recognized with multiple awards, including selections in various best performance lists by major newspapers.
Saeborg
Saeborg, born in 1981 in Toyama, utilizes self-made latex body suits to challenge conventional identities and explore the themes of the human body. With a portfolio of international performances, Saeborg’s art invites audiences to a playful utopia that provokes deep existential thought.
