Edan Instruments Showcases Commitment to Global Health Equity at WHA
On May 20, 2025, Edan Instruments, Inc. (300206.SZ), a global leader in medical devices, participated in a significant side event of the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, titled "China's Medical Technology Innovation and Its Implication for Global Health." Co-organized by Tsinghua University and the University of Geneva, this gathering aimed to discuss how innovations in Chinese medical technology can enhance equitable health access, especially in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).
During the event, Xicheng Xie, Co-Founder of Edan Instruments, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the company's experiences in providing accessible innovations for underserved communities. He emphasized, “True innovation isn't just about cutting-edge technology; it’s about offering the right solutions to those in greatest need.” Xie's remarks resonated with the audience, reflecting on the company's 30-year journey and the evolving significance of innovation.
Xie outlined Edan's commitment to developing medical technologies that are not only advanced but also practical and effective in real-world settings. Notably, he discussed an ongoing initiative utilizing Edan’s Nano Series portable ultrasound diagnostic system to assist with essential pregnancy care in resource-limited environments. This project focuses on equipping primary care personnel with tools for early detection and timely referrals of high-risk pregnancies.
In addition to portable ultrasound technology, Xie showcased other impressive innovations from Edan, such as palm-sized fetal Doppler devices, the intelligent IQ algorithm, and a sophisticated ECG web platform. All of these technologies are designed to bridge infrastructure gaps and reduce reliance on scarce medical personnel. Edan's extensive presence in both high-end and resource-limited markets has led to a truly global footprint, spanning from Europe to Africa.
To enhance local engagement and ensure responsive service, Edan has established 22 subsidiaries worldwide, allowing for personalized support and continuous product improvement through direct feedback. The company is actively involved in numerous noteworthy projects in LMICs, collaborating with NGOs, health authorities, and development partners on initiatives focused on maternal health and women’s care in regions such as South Africa, West Africa, and Latin America.
Each year, around 1,000 black-and-white ultrasound devices are deployed globally through NGO-led programs, which extend access to essential care and help build local capacity through training and support. “At Edan, we believe that innovation and value creation go hand in hand,” Xie concluded. “This mission lies at the core of everything we do, from product design to global partnerships.”
As Edan celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025, the company remains committed to delivering innovations that truly make a difference, especially for those who need them most.
