DeepNeuronic's Strategic Move to Motorola Solutions
In a significant step within the tech landscape,
Young America Capital LLC has announced its advisory role in the sale of
DeepNeuronic, a rising star in AI video analytics, to
Motorola Solutions. This transaction is pivotal not just for DeepNeuronic but also for the evolution of Motorola's video security platform,
Avigilon.
Founded in 2021 by visionary minds
Vasco Lopes and
Bruno Degardin, both alumni of Portugal's
University of Beira Interior, DeepNeuronic specializes in cutting-edge software that interprets live camera feeds, identifying and flagging incidents in real-time. This technology has already found application among various sectors, including highway operators, airports, manufacturers, and retailers in Portugal and Brazil.
Motorola Solutions has acquired 100% of DeepNeuronic’s share capital, which includes its Brazilian subsidiary, though the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The acquisition marks a bright future for Avigilon, as it seeks to incorporate DeepNeuronic's advanced technology into its offerings, bolstering its capabilities in providing security solutions. With clients in over 100 countries, the integration of DeepNeuronic’s technologies promises to enhance Motorola’s service offerings significantly.
Peter Formanek, the Founder and CEO of Young America Capital, remarked on the deal, stating, “This was one of the sharper deals we worked on this year. Vasco and Bruno had a product customers were already paying for and a clear view of where video analytics was going. Motorola Solutions saw it too.” His comments highlight the mutual benefit seen by both companies and the foresight in recognizing the potential of DeepNeuronic’s products.
Ran Zfoni, Vice President and Head of Israel-Europe Tech at YAC, played an instrumental role in advising the founders through this extensive transaction. His expertise ensured that both parties reached an agreement that would allow DeepNeuronic to continue its work from its headquarters in Covilhã, Portugal.
Post acquisition, the 17-member team of DeepNeuronic will join Motorola Solutions, with plans to maintain their operational base in Covilhã. Zfoni elaborated on their objectives in the acquisition process, noting, “The founders knew what they wanted: a buyer that could scale the technology and would keep the team together in Covilhã. Motorola Solutions was that buyer.” This commitment to the local team ensures that the innovative spirit cultivated by Lopes and Degardin continues to thrive even under the larger corporate umbrella.
Legal counsel for DeepNeuronic during the transaction was provided by
Cuatrecasas, with
Vasco Bivar de Azevedo at the helm of their legal team. The collaboration between legal and financial advisors played a crucial role in streamlining the sale process across international lines, bridging the gap between Portugal and the U.S.
This acquisition not only creates a synergistic merger of technology and resources but also positions Motorola Solutions to further capitalize on the growing market for AI-driven video analytics. As security solutions become increasingly vital in an uncertain world, the enhanced capabilities afforded by DeepNeuronic’s innovations will likely position Motorola as a leader in this essential domain.
