Van Malone Appointed as Head Football Coach at Hampton University

In a significant move for the Hampton University athletics program, Van Malone has been named the 23rd head football coach in the school's history. This announcement was made by Anthony D. Henderson Sr., the Director of Athletics, highlighting Malone's impressive 23 years of coaching experience, including 18 at the Power 4 level.

Before joining Hampton, Malone served for seven years at Kansas State, where he achieved a commendable 53-34 record. His extensive coaching journey has also seen him gain experience at notable institutions such as Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and SMU, where he has developed a reputation for fostering talent and achieving results.

A former professional player, Malone was drafted by the Detroit Lions after an impressive college career at Texas, where he was recognized as a Freshman All-American and earned All-Southwest Conference honors. His playing days in the NFL were marked by significant contributions to the Lions, whom he helped to playoff appearances in the mid-90s.
