Canon's varioPRINT iX1700 and Aquilion Rise Shine at IDEA Awards

Canon's Groundbreaking Achievements at IDEA 2023

At the prestigious 56th Machine Industrial Design Award IDEA, hosted by Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, two innovative products from Canon have been honored for their exceptional design and functionality. The varioPRINT iX1700, a commercial printing inkjet digital press, has been awarded the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, marking Canon's third time receiving this top honor in a row. Meanwhile, the Aquilion Rise, a whole-body X-ray CT diagnostic device, clinched the Japan Design Promotion Award.

Unveiling the varioPRINT iX1700

The varioPRINT iX1700 stands out with its impressive printing capabilities, offering a rapid printing speed of 170 sheets per minute for A4 size and 73 sheets per minute for B3 size. Its high-definition print head, combined with a sophisticated ink circulation mechanism and high-density latex inks, ensures a remarkable printing quality that rivals offset printing. The design of the device significantly enhances productivity in production environments, featuring navigation LEDs embedded across various units. This user-friendly approach allows operators to intuitively monitor the machine's conditions and identify necessary maintenance tasks without constantly checking the UI screen, thus streamlining workflow.

Additionally, the flat top surface of the varioPRINT iX1700 is designed to serve as a temporary space for inks or printed materials. This thoughtful design eliminates raised edges, providing operators with a clean and functional workspace.

Introducing the Aquilion Rise

On the other hand, the Aquilion Rise represents a significant advancement in diagnostic imaging technology through a collaborative effort with Keio University. This whole-body X-ray CT system supports multi-position examinations, including supine, standing, and seated positions. Its unique gantry design, which is supported on one side, caters to the movement of patients and medical staff, ensuring ample workspace during standing and seated imaging, thus facilitating efficient examination processes.

The device features a gentle curvature in its design, aiming to reduce the sense of constriction while enhancing the overall openness and visibility of the examination room. Incorporating illuminating elements in its aperture ensures that the interior is brightly lit, helping to alleviate the anxiety and tension often felt by patients.

Recognition and Future Endeavors

Both the varioPRINT iX1700 and Aquilion Rise have also been recognized internationally, earning accolades at the iF Design Award in Germany, which signifies their outstanding design merit. This latest achievement marks Canon's 19th entry into the Machine Industrial Design Award IDEA, with a notable three consecutive wins for the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award.

Encouraged by these accolades, Canon is committed to continuing its journey of merging high performance with exceptional design in its future products.

What is the IDEA Award?
