Jewish National Fund-USA Provides Essential Support to IDF Soldiers and Their Families
In times of hardship, even the smallest acts of kindness can significantly impact those suffering. Recognized as a reputable entity in philanthropy, the Jewish National Fund-USA is actively demonstrating its support for the bravery and dedication of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers, first responders, and their families through two impactful initiatives: the Israel Support Packages and Operation Hug.
Through the
Israel Support Packages initiative, the organization curates and sends thoughtfully assembled packages filled with various products sourced directly from small Israeli businesses located in the North and South. Many of these businesses are affiliated with the Jewish National Fund-USA's Small Business Association, and they provide items ranging from artisanal snacks to unique handcrafted goods that signify both resilience and Zionist pride. Each package not only uplifts a soldier or a first responder stationed on the front lines but also supports local entrepreneurs and artisans committed to strengthening Israel's economy during tough times.
Deb Lust Zaluda, the president of Jewish National Fund-USA, expressed the importance of this initiative by stating, “Our brave soldiers, firefighters, medics, and emergency workers are not just defending Israel—they're protecting the soul of our homeland and ensuring our future. By sending an Israel Support Package, you’re conveying a powerful message: You are not alone. Am Yisrael stands with you.”
Supporters have the unique opportunity to include a personal message in English, which gets translated into Hebrew and included with the package. This gesture ensures that soldiers, whether they are a pilot based in the South or a first responder in the North, feel the warmth and encouragement of a larger global community standing behind them. Additionally, this initiative plays a crucial role in Jewish National Fund-USA’s broader
Israel Resilience Campaign, which funds essential infrastructure, therapeutic services, and much-needed economic support in Israel's most vulnerable communities.
Another noteworthy program being spearheaded by Jewish National Fund-USA is
Operation Hug, a pioneering initiative developed in collaboration with Nefesh B'Nefesh. This program offers a round-trip airfare to any parent of a lone soldier serving in an active combat unit, allowing them to visit their child in Israel. Parents are encouraged to contribute a nominal fee towards the cost of the airfare. Given that many of Israel's 5,000 lone soldiers experience not only the dangers of combat but also the emotional isolation of being away from their family, Operation Hug acts as a lifeline.
Since its inception in late 2023, Operation Hug has successfully reunited over 1,200 families from more than 60 countries, with each reunion fostering moments of healing amid the chaos of conflict. Deborah Riegel, chair of the Jewish National Fund-USA Nefesh B'Nefesh Task Force, noted, “Operation Hug embodies the very soul of what Jewish National Fund-USA stands for—ensuring that every individual who defends our homeland feels the figurative embrace of a grateful people, and more importantly, the literal embrace of family.”
The efficacy and integrity of Jewish National Fund-USA are evident in its continuous high ratings from leading charity evaluators such as Charity Navigator and its recognition from the Better Business Bureau as a trustworthy organization. With just a $3,600 donation, individuals can sponsor a reunion facilitated through Operation Hug.
