Global Leaders Gather in Bridgetown to Tackle Energy and Climate Challenges Ahead of 2030 Goals

Global Leaders Assemble in Bridgetown for Energy and Climate Forum

The world is at a critical juncture with only five years remaining to meet the ambitious 2030 Global Goals, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 7, which addresses universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. To galvanize action toward achieving these pressing targets, over 1000 high-level representatives from governments, businesses, development institutions, civil society, and youth organizations will gather in Bridgetown, Barbados, on March 12-13, 2025.

The sixth edition of the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Global Forum is set against the theme "Sustainable Energy for Equity, Security, and Prosperity." This marks the first time the event will be held in the Latin America and Caribbean region, exemplifying the global commitment to sustainable and inclusive energy transitions.

Among the prominent figures confirmed to speak at the two-day event are H.E. Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados; H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone; and Amina J. Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General. These leaders aim to celebrate progress achieved thus far while fostering new partnerships that pave the way for more dynamic and equitable energy solutions.

Barbados has shown unwavering dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals, as highlighted by Hon. Lisa Cummins, Minister of Energy and Business. She stated, "We are proud to partner with Sustainable Energy for All on this Global Forum, which will serve as a pivotal moment in the quest for climate justice. We aim to support developing nations in their energy transition efforts."

Additionally, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mottley, Barbados has emerged as a beacon for equitable energy transition, inviting dialogue and collaboration to find impactful solutions to eradicate energy poverty and combat climate change.

The event will include two Ministerial Roundtables comprising ministers from over 30 countries, designed to enhance collaboration, urgency, and investment in energy transition initiatives in emerging economies. Discussions will focus on collective strategies aimed at boosting investments that facilitate energy transformations in developing markets.

Furthermore, the forum will facilitate the unveiling of critical initiatives, including the DRE fund, which seeks innovative finance avenues, and the establishment of ambitious national energy transition goals.

A momentous highlight will be the presentation of the Energy Heroes Award, recognizing innovative ideas and projects that translate into meaningful impacts in the quest for a sustainable energy landscape.

As the forum unfolds, it will also serve as a platform for future climate negotiations, providing a roadmap for climate financing leading up to the significant COP30 event scheduled later this year.

This forum is not just a gathering of leaders; it represents a clarion call for action, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure energy accessibility for all. As we approach 2030, it is ever more critical that nations work together to confront these pressing challenges and build a sustainable future for generations to come.
