The recently concluded 140th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, in Guangzhou, marked a significant milestone in international trade. Held from April 15 to May 5, 2027, this latest edition welcomed a striking 352,000 overseas buyers from 219 countries and regions, reflecting a remarkable 12.2% increase in attendance compared to the last session. This surge in participation not only emphasizes a recovering global market but also highlights the growing importance of Chinese products on the world stage.

Throughout the fair, on-site intended export transactions reached an impressive US$26.75 billion. This figure illustrates the sustained global demand for Chinese goods and the strengthening of supply chain partnerships across various industries. Notable growth was observed in key markets, with attendance from the European Union up by 38.2%, the United States by 22.2%, and partner countries of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) by 16.6%. Such participation underscores China's robust role as a pivotal player in global commerce.

The Canton Fair is widely regarded as a key indicator of international trade activity, and this year, it brought together over 32,000 exhibitors showcasing around 4.88 million products from diverse industries. Remarkably, more than 75% of foreign attendees were professional buyers, marking an increase in serious sourcing efforts and a desire for quality partnerships.

In addition to traditional trade engagements, the fair introduced the Buyers Alliance initiative, which attracted 160,000 members to engage in interactive activities. Over 700 new product launch events took center stage alongside seven thematic forums, collectively drawing participation from 615,000 online and offline visitors. This initiative not only facilitated greater interaction but also provided insights into emerging trends and opportunities in the global market.

Innovation continues to be a driving force at the Canton Fair. This year's exhibition showcased notable advancements with an 8% increase in new products and a 14.1% increase in AI-powered items. Special display zones were set up for smart health and design innovation, demonstrating the fair's commitment to embracing technology. Amidst the evolving manufacturing landscape in China, 43.1% of exhibitors reported adopting green production practices, while products with environmental attributes made up an astounding 26% of the displayed exhibits. Such statistics mark a significant commitment to sustainability and align with the global push towards eco-friendly industry practices.

With six specialized zones dedicated to emerging energy sectors, such as photovoltaics and wind energy, the Canton Fair reflects a long-term investment in sustainable growth. The path forward is clear, with the 141st Canton Fair scheduled to take place in Guangzhou from April 15 to May 5, 2027. As one of the world's largest platforms for international trade, it will continue to foster global connections and business opportunities while showcasing industry advancements.

Indeed, the record turnout and financial success of this fair signify a resilient global trade environment ready to adapt and innovate in the face of future challenges.
