Thermos Joins Tokyo Green Ship Action 2025
In a bid to promote biodiversity and environmental preservation, Thermos Co., Ltd., a prominent global enterprise known for its vacuum bottles, took part in the
Tokyo Green Ship Action on
November 29, 2025. This initiative, which involves a partnership between NGOs and companies, aims to foster sustainable practices and protect natural environments. This marks the third consecutive year that Thermos has participated in this commendable endeavor.
On the day of the event, a total of
21 individuals, consisting of
13 Thermos employees and their families, along with 8 facilitators from the NPO Nature Environment Academy and the Tokyo Metropolitan Environmental Public Corporation, gathered at the
Hachioji Takiyama Satoyama Conservation Area. The weather was exceptionally favorable, providing the perfect backdrop for participants to engage with nature and deepen their understanding of environmental conservation.
Activities Conducted
During the event, participants had the unique opportunity to partake in various activities aimed at preserving and nurturing the local ecosystem. These included:
- - Nature Observation: Participants learned about the formation of satoyama and the vital role it plays in the ecosystem, as well as the current challenges it faces.
- - Thinning Trees: In an effort to enhance nutrient supply to other trees, participants engaged in thinning overly dense woodlands, promoting healthy growth and ecological balance.
- - Log Processing (Tamaki): The thinned trees were processed into manageable logs that could be used for firewood.
- - Firewood Production: Participants turned the logs into firewood, which provided practical experience and a sense of accomplishment.
Insights and Learning
Participants expressed their reflections on the day's activities:
- - One noted the importance of understanding the development of satoyama and the diverse organisms that inhabit it.
- - Another highlighted the enriching experience of the tree thinning process and the creation of firewood, stating that it was fulfilling and educational.
- - Many recognized the significance of maintaining ecosystems through human intervention and expressed a commitment to continue these efforts in the future.
