United Utility Joins Entergy Texas in Power Grid Resiliency Project

United Utility, recognized for its expertise in electric utility infrastructure services, has proudly announced its collaboration with Entergy Texas in a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the resilience of the power grid in Southeast Texas. This partnership is part of Entergy's Texas Future Ready Resiliency Plan, a comprehensive program set over multiple years designed to fortify the local power infrastructure against storm-related disruptions.

As a leading company in the field, United Utility's involvement is expected to significantly boost its presence in Texas, while also reinforcing its reputation as one of the nation's largest providers specializing in electric grid resilience programs. The company has effectively supported similar grid hardening efforts for other utilities, including Entergy Louisiana, as well as Duke Energy and NextEra Energy in Florida.

"We are incredibly excited that Entergy Texas has chosen to expand our strategic partnership to support their large-scale grid resiliency program," stated Ty Carmeans, West Region President at United Utility. His remarks emphasize the synergy between both entities, positioning United Utility as an optimal collaborator for designing and constructing necessary grid enhancements to mitigate storm-related outages, ultimately benefitting families and businesses across the region.

Under the terms of this multifaceted agreement, United Utility will provide engineering design and construction services, alongside material management. The scope of work includes implementing advanced technologies such as aerial drones for pole inspections, enhancing the efficiency and safety of the evaluation process. Engineering design is set to commence by June, with construction activities slated to begin in the fall.

In January, the Public Utility Commission of Texas unanimously approved the first phase of Entergy's Resiliency Plan. United Utility was subsequently selected as the designated alliance partner tasked with bolstering the distribution system's resilience in alignment with the PUC regulations. The initial phase of the initiative encompasses strategic projects valued at $137 million, anticipated to unfold over three years, all with the goal of solidifying the Southeast Texas power grid's reliability and minimizing future restoration costs associated with outages.

This collaboration between United Utility and Entergy underscores not just a commitment to improving essential infrastructure but also a proactive approach in addressing the increasing challenges posed by extreme weather on energy systems. United Utility continues to be a pivotal player in ensuring that the electrical grid is prepared for the future, adeptly handling the demands of an evolving energy landscape.
