JD-Next® Awards Scholarships to Support Future Law Students Focused on Justice

On July 28, 2026, JD-Next®, a program designed for law school admissions assessment and preparation by Aspen Publishing, announced the winners of its inaugural Impact Scholarships. Out of over 1,000 nationwide applications, ten aspiring law students were selected for their commitment to enhancing the justice system and contributing positively to their communities.

Scholarship Recipients

Among the notable recipients, Darlissa M. Allen from Memphis, Tennessee, was awarded the top prize of $10,000. Allen, who served in the Marine Corps and graduated from Georgetown University and Cornell Law School, plans to utilize her legal education to protect vulnerable communities and expand opportunities.

"Receiving the inaugural JD-Next Impact Scholarship is an honor that is difficult to convey," Allen shared. "Opening the email was an emotional experience, as it confirmed years of perseverance and sacrifice. This recognition is a blessing, and I embrace the responsibility of being a lawyer who expands justice for all."

The second-place scholarship of $7,000 went to Angelreana Choi, an incoming student at the University of Virginia School of Law. Choi, who has a background in economics and education studies from Yale, is determined to advocate for immigrant and working-class communities.

Additionally, eight finalists each received $1,000 scholarships to support their law school tuition. These finalists include students from prestigious law schools such as UCLA, Harvard, and the University of Chicago.

Selection Process

The selection committee evaluated all applicants based on their vision for using the law to effect positive change, their demonstrated leadership and commitment to service, and the quality of their applications, including essays and letters of recommendation. The process highlighted the passion and resilience of these future law professionals, showcasing their aim to make a difference in society through their legal education.

Nicole Pinard, CEO of Aspen Publishing, expressed her admiration for the applicants, stating, "The overwhelming response to our inaugural JD-Next Impact Scholarship reflects the drive and dedication of today’s future law students. Their commitment to leadership and justice energizes our hope for the legal profession’s future."
