About Maiko Nishino


Maiko Nishino, born in Osaka, began ballet at six and was trained by renowned teachers in Japan and Switzerland. At 15, she studied at the prestigious Royal Ballet School and joined the Norwegian National Ballet at 19, eventually becoming their first Asian principal dancer at the age of 25. Nishino's remarkable performances, particularly in Swan Lake, earned her various accolades, including the Norwegian Critics' Award for Culture.

Since her retirement in 2021, she has been active as a freelance dancer and now runs her own dance studio MAIKO, focusing on training the next generation of dancers and body conditioning techniques.
