Hyundai Partners with Healthy Seas to Promote Ocean Conservation and Education

In a remarkable commitment to ocean health, Hyundai Motor America is continuing its valuable partnership with Healthy Seas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to marine conservation. This collaboration, which enters its third year, emphasizes the importance of reclaiming underwater habitats, promoting educational initiatives, and advocating for a circular economy. The partnership notably includes plans for four major underwater cleanup missions scheduled throughout the summer and fall, starting with an ambitious cleanup near the Tuna Clipper wreck close to Catalina Island.

These cleanup operations are designed not only to remove marine litter but also to restore essential habitats for various marine species, including seals, lobsters, torpedo rays, and purple hydrocorals. Such efforts are crucial in making both diving and fishing locations safer and more biodiversity-friendly. One of the significant aspects of these cleanups is the processing of collected fishing nets and nylon waste into ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon yarn that finds new life in textile products. This innovative recycling showcases how discarded materials can have a second chance, reinforcing the ideals of sustainability and economic circularity.

Hyundai's commitment to ocean conservation is manifested in hands-on activities as well. A recent beach cleanup event held at Huntington Beach State Park on August 9, 2025, exemplified the company’s proactive approach to engaging its employees and community in ecological stewardship. Following this, an educational workshop was conducted at the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington Valley, where more than 30 students participated in a creative origami activity called 'If the Ocean Could Speak.' This workshop sought to enlighten young minds about the delicate interconnectedness of human actions and marine life, serving to ignite a long-lasting sense of stewardship among participants.

This integration of educational programs into their activities marks a pivotal moment in Hyundai's partnership with Healthy Seas, reflecting a joint effort to cultivate a generation of informed ocean defenders. By engaging students, Hyundai aims to expand the message of marine conservation beyond the classroom, enabling these young individuals to become ambassadors for change within their families and communities.

Hyundai Motor America's President and CEO, Randy Parker, commented on the renewed partnership’s significance. He stated, "As we deepen our collaboration with Healthy Seas, Hyundai reaffirms its unwavering commitment to sustainability and ocean conservation. By championing the preservation of marine ecosystems and supporting initiatives that promote a circular economy, we are advancing our vision of progress for humanity and taking meaningful action to ensure a healthier planet for future generations."

As both organizations work together to tackle marine pollution, they engage communities, volunteers, and media in activities aimed at cleaning and preserving the ocean. Noteworthy past projects have included the removal of abandoned fishing nets, beach cleanups, and a broadening of efforts to include educational components. The expansion of these initiatives from Europe to South Korea in 2022 and now to the United States demonstrates the shared vision of Hyundai and Healthy Seas in addressing global marine challenges.

In addition to its partnership with Healthy Seas, Hyundai has been involved in other environmental projects. The company is notably collaborating with One Tree Planted on reforestation efforts, showcasing its dedication to providing sustainable solutions for our environment. The 'IONIQ Forest' initiative, which promotes afforestation and biodiversity, reflects Hyundai's comprehensive approach to sustainability and its commitment to making a meaningful environmental impact.

Hyundai's corporate social responsibility initiative, known as Hyundai Hope, embodies the company’s vision of Progress for Humanity. It supports nonprofits and organizations focusing on health, safety, education, and environmental sustainability, reinforcing Hyundai's mission to improve the wellbeing of society.
