Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Promotes Cycling with $50 Bluebikes Credit

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Celebrates National Bike Month

As we enter May, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is making a significant stride towards promoting health and wellness in the community by celebrating National Bike Month. They are offering a remarkable incentive—the largest ever Bluebikes credit of $50. The initiative aims to encourage residents of Greater Boston to explore the vast benefits of biking, not only for physical health but also for mental well-being.

What is the Offer?

Starting from May 1, residents can redeem a free $50 credit through the Bluebikes app by entering the code BLUECROSSMABIKE in the rewards section. This offer is available for use at any of the 500 Bluebikes stations located across 13 municipalities—including bustling areas like Boston, Cambridge, and Arlington. The credit can be applied to both traditional pedal bikes and e-bikes, enhancing accessibility for all riders.

Once users claim their credit, it will remain valid until December 31, 2025, allowing ample time to experience the joy and advantages of biking throughout the year.

Community Impact and Health Benefits

The initiative is part of Blue Cross's efforts to foster healthier communities. Regular biking has been shown to have numerous health benefits. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), engaging in activities like cycling can lower the risks of chronic illnesses such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and can additionally improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety.

Jeff Bellows, the vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, stated, “We’re proud to offer our largest-ever Bluebikes credit during National Bike Month—and Mental Health Awareness Month—to help even more people discover the joy and benefits of cycling.” He emphasized that biking not only supports individual health but also contributes to environmental sustainability by lowering carbon emissions and creating stronger community connections.
