ICEYE Expands Operations in Greece

ICEYE has taken a significant step in cementing its global presence by inaugurating a new office and satellite production line in Athens, Greece. This move marks an important milestone as part of the company's active involvement in the "Greek National Satellite Space Program - Axis 1.2". Collaborating with the Hellenic Space Agency and the Ministry of Digital Governance, ICEYE's initiatives aim to enhance Greece's capabilities in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology.

In September 2024, the company announced its commitment to this program, which focuses on developing Greece's SAR Space Segment. This includes launching two of ICEYE's SAR satellites designed to provide vital radar imagery. With these innovations, Greece will not only own sovereign satellites but will also gain access to ICEYE's extensive existing satellite constellation, ensuring it remains at the forefront of satellite technology.

Boosting the Local Industry

ICEYE's new facilities in Athens represent more than just an expansion of operations; they are set to strengthen the local space sector significantly. By establishing a satellite assembly production line, ICEYE is also generating jobs and nurturing a skilled workforce in Greece. This focus on talent development is crucial for bolstering the country's position as a regional hub for space technology.

The new facilities are an integral part of ICEYE's strategy, which includes creating a Centre of Excellence aimed at harnessing advanced technologies and tapping into the rich potential of the Greek market. This initiative is expected to enhance employment opportunities for scientists and engineers in Greece, further reinforcing the local talent pool.

Rafal Modrzewski, CEO, and Co-founder of ICEYE, expressed pride in the commencement of operations in Greece, noting the country’s strategic importance for the company's expansion in South Eastern Europe. He emphasized ICEYE's ongoing collaboration with both the Hellenic Space Agency and the Ministry of Digital Governance.

Vasilis Chaloulakos, Head of ICEYE Greece, highlighted the importance of establishing solid foundations in Greece to ensure long-term success and significant in-country investments. With an eye toward promoting the Greek space ecosystem, ICEYE is determined to elevate the nation's status within the European space industry.

ICEYE is renowned for delivering remarkable persistent monitoring capabilities across the globe. Its extensive satellite constellation for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) provides clients with real-time insights, enabling rapid decision-making processes crucial for diverse sectors affected by natural disasters, defense, maritime monitoring, and finance.

The dedication to innovation and the enhancement of satellite technology is evident in ICEYE's operations, which extend internationally, with a presence in Finland, Poland, Spain, the UK, Australia, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US.
