UK Cinema Weeks with DOMMUNE at 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku

Starting March 6, 2026, the 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku will launch a special event: UK Cinema Weeks with DOMMUNE, in conjunction with the Tate Modern’s exhibition titled YBA & BEYOND: British Art in the 90s. This event will run for five weeks, showcasing a curated selection of five exceptional films that capture the spirit of 90s UK culture.

The event will kick off with Danny Boyle’s classic film Trainspotting (1996), which returns to the big screen in its original 35mm format, thirty years after its first release. The film portrays the turbulent lives of a group of Edinburgh youth grappling with their desires and despair amid the backdrop of 90s Britain. This acclaimed movie helped solidify the vibrant pop culture of the time and brought actors such as Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle to prominence.

The lineup continues with Guy Ritchie’s thrilling crime-comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, alongside Boyle’s earlier suspense-thriller, Shallow Grave. Additionally, the schedule includes two significant documentaries that celebrate rebellious figures from the UK fashion scene.

Visitors to this event can expect a genuinely immersive experience with SAION-SR EDITION sound systems renowned for their realistic audio dynamics, curated under the supervision of the eminent composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. Audiences will enjoy a unique cinematic atmosphere, enhanced by luxurious seating options, designed to elevate the viewing experience across five weeks of screenings.
