The theme of this year’s IP Gala was "Next-Generation WAN: Boosting Growth for Carriers," where key industry players like the WBBA and IPv6 Forum participated in this significant event.

The unveiling of the white paper was pivotal, highlighting Huawei's vision for IP networks aimed at 2030. The outlined strategies are positioned to empower operators by developing comprehensive, secure, and user-friendly networks while enhancing revenue generation and operational efficiency. As operators gear up to harness artificial intelligence capabilities bolstered by IPv6 and SRv6 technologies, they are prepared to unlock the full potential of their networks. Latif Ladid, the president of the IPv6 Forum, underlined the ongoing initiatives that various countries are adopting, specifically those focused on AI cloud sovereignty and quantum security. These strategies create an infrastructure where operators can implement more advanced network designs, besides collaborating with global partners to integrate cutting-edge technologies effectively.

In his opening remarks, John Cai, President of the Router Domain within Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, emphasized the vital components that make up a successful NG WAN: multi-dimensional awareness, security and resilience, and network autonomy. This is essential for operators to expedite their network monetization while simultaneously cutting costs and boosting operational efficiency. The recently released white paper delineates a comprehensive approach for WAN development tailored for the targeted 2030 networks, outlining crucial features, target architectures, innovative technologies, and network-building specifications. Discussing pioneering practices, Mehmet Durmus, Associate Director of IP/MPLS Core Networks and Data Centers at Turkcell in Turkey, shared notable experiences from Turkcell’s NG WAN implementation. He pointed out that emerging technologies like 5G and AI-powered intelligent computing exert significant pressure on traditional networks. In a proactive stance, Turkcell is leading the way, employing state-of-the-art solutions such as lossless RDMA and AI-driven energy-saving strategies, which have enabled remarkable advancements in intelligent computing, energy conservation, and smart upkeep practices.

Future of Converged AI-Centric WANs



Xu Huan, Vice President in the Router Product Line at Huawei, elaborated on the foundational aspects of NG WAN, focusing on key scenarios and the business value they present. He insisted that NG WAN should center around AI, with a fully converged service network that integrates data computing, security, and networking frameworks into a holistic environment. The ecological foundation for this network will rely heavily on ultra-broadband technologies, providing extensive capabilities for multi-dimensional knowledge management to ensure an unparalleled user experience and unyielding service availability — maximizing average revenue per user (ARPU) and ensuring that services remain constant through robust security and resilience.

Additionally, the network will utilize agents to bolster its autonomy further.
