Miami-Dade County's Tourism Hits Record Highs Promising Future Growth

Miami-Dade County's Tourism Performance in 2025

The latest report from the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) reveals extraordinary tourism performance, with greater Miami and Miami Beach setting new visitation records. In a recent State of the Travel and Tourism Industry event, local leaders praised the statistics gathered for the tumultuous year of 2025, which recorded a staggering 28.3 million visitors contributing a monumental $32.2 billion to the local economy.

Held at the iconic Biltmore Hotel, which celebrates its centennial in 2026, the event saw over 500 attendees including Miami-Dade County officials such as Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Chairman Anthony Rodriguez. Recognizing the economic importance of tourism, the leaders highlighted how the industry serves as a crucial economic driver for Miami-Dade County, creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and enhancing residents' quality of life.

In terms of consumer spending, visitors invested approximately $22.7 billion on various services including lodging, dining, and entertainment, showing a 4.1% increase compared to 2024. The growth trend has not only bolstered local businesses but has also generated significant employment opportunities, with tourism supporting over 216,000 jobs making up 10% of the county's total employment.

Economic Contributions of Tourism

The positive contributions of tourism extend beyond economic figures; GMCVB Chair Julissa Kepner emphasized tourism's role in enhancing Miami-Dade County’s global image while providing substantial benefits to residents. In 2025, tourism accounted for about 8% of the county's GDP, resulting in over $5.3 billion in tax revenues (federal, state, and local combined).

Interestingly, more than $2.2 billion of local and state tax revenues translated to approximately $2,300 in annual savings for each household and $809 per resident. The lodging sector alone accounted for a hefty $10.4 billion in visitor spending, indicating healthy demand for accommodation services.

International Appeal and Future Prospects

The visitor profile remains robust, with international tourists spending an impressive average of $1,150 per trip. Leading the influx of visitors are markets such as Colombia, Brazil, the UK, and Canada, each showcasing Miami-Dade's appeal on a global scale.

Miami-Dade is currently poised to maintain this momentum heading into 2026. It ranks among the nation's top 25 hotel markets, showcasing impressive numbers in terms of occupancy, average daily rates, and revenue per available room. Upcoming events, including global sporting competitions and convention opportunities, promise to further elevate the region's profile.

A standout feature of Miami’s tourism landscape is its recognition in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide, highlighting the incredible dining options available across the region, which reflect the area's rich cultural diversity. Upcoming attractions, such as the 2026 NASCAR Championship Weekend and the G20 summit, are anticipated to contribute significantly to the local economy.

Looking Ahead

GMCVB President and CEO David Whitaker expressed optimism for the future, asserting that tourism will continue to create opportunities and enhance overall quality of life in Miami-Dade County. The ripple effects of a thriving tourism industry are evident, from job creation to increased funding for community infrastructure, arts, and culture.

Whitaker challenges local stakeholders to sustain investments in marketing and develop Miami as a premier global destination, ensuring that the benefits of tourism are felt throughout Miami-Dade’s neighborhoods. Looking forward, while the economy is rebounding, dedicated efforts toward sustainability, cultural enrichment, and event hosting will be essential in maintaining the strength of Miami’s tourism economy for residents and visitors alike.
