Baccarat and Harry Nuriev’s Latest Artistic Collaboration
Baccarat, the renowned French crystal maker, proudly presents its latest collection designed by the acclaimed artist and designer Harry Nuriev, known for his work in both Paris and New York. This exclusive collection is being showcased ahead of its release, through a special display at the Baccarat Marunouchi store in Tokyo.
Originating from an installation Nuriev crafted for the upcoming 2024 renovation of the Baccarat Maison in Paris, the collection reinterprets signature Baccarat pieces, namely the iconic 'Alcove' and the purity symbol 'Sirius'. Utilizing the same graphic language as his installation, Nuriev melds traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistry, reflecting Baccarat’s unique spirit that celebrates both tradition and innovation.
In the production facility's gilding workshop, skilled artisans infuse life into Nuriev’s artistic vision, intricately carving symbols and gestures that represent Baccarat's ethos, such as 'celebration', 'carpe diem', and 'charm', onto crystal through sandblasting and hand-painted enamel techniques. In this process, the collection not only pays homage to the house's creative freedom but also expresses deep respect for the craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations.
Nuriev describes his artistic approach as 'Transformism', a philosophy that honors the essence of existing materials while ascribing new meanings and beauty to them. This concept allows him to gain international recognition as a transformative artist. His work with Baccarat serves as a testament to this principle, combining the free-spirited creative flair of the maison with an acknowledgment of the enduring craftsmanship that has marked Baccarat's legacy for centuries.
