Exciting Developments: 12 Finalists for Kosen GCON 2025



The 4th Kosen Girls SDGs x Technology Contest, officially known as Kosen GCON 2025, has revealed the twelve teams that will compete in the finals. This contest aims to empower high school girls across Japan to engage with technology and propose innovative solutions contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Organized in partnership with the Nikkei Newspaper, this event promises to be an inspiring showcase of talent and creativity.

The finals will be held on December 14, 2025, at the prestigious Ito Hall, University of Tokyo, located in Bunkyo City, Tokyo. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream will be available for free on Nikkei Channel. Advance registration for online viewing is encouraged, and registrants will receive a program featuring introductions to each finalist team.

Finalist Teams and Their Innovative Themes


The selected finalist teams have developed a variety of innovative projects that address pressing societal issues, as outlined below:

1. Sendai Kosen - 'Mori no Shikashika': An AI-powered app and toothbrush attachment that visualizes 'unpolished areas' of oral health aimed at children.
2. Ibaraki Kosen - 'Ibaraki Kosen Tech.AGRI': A regional branding strategy centering on Ibaraki's sweet potatoes.
3. Oyama Kosen - 'Irotoridori Lab': Upcycling of discarded Otani stone through plant dyeing techniques.
4. Gunma Kosen - 'Gunma Level-Up Project!': The utilization of a new material derived from konjac powder originating from Gunma.
5. Toyota Kosen & Gifu Kosen - 'Dreaming Mentor Girls': Achieving a circular economy through the use of recycled materials from waste tiles for paving.
6. Nara Kosen - 'YAMATO Herbal': Development of a nasal spray using Kawara Yomogi to alleviate women's health concerns.
7. Kure Kosen - 'MECA Girl Development Project': Advancing a gender-free society for engineers.
8. Tokuyama Kosen - 'Hikamikon Channel': An app called 'FlaNavi for Girls' that promotes constant accessibility and usage.
9. Anan Kosen - 'Awa Otome': A collaborative narrative through AI and traditional puppet theater.
10. Kurume Kosen - 'Kappa': A challenge to pass down heat treatment technology with the help of AI.
11. Kumamoto Kosen - 'Nondamon': Development of an efficient tool for moisture management to prevent heatstroke in kindergarten and nursery settings.
12. Okinawa Kosen - 'Tottoko Muon隊!': A large-scale eco-system for disaster prevention utilizing space radiation technology (COSMOS).

Notable Judges for the Finals


The judging panel for the finals includes distinguished individuals from various fields, ensuring a fair and insightful evaluation process.

Event Impact and Awards


Out of 89 teams that entered the contest, these twelve teams were selected based on several criteria, including understanding of SDGs, innovation, feasibility, and the promotion of women's roles in society. During the finals, awards will be given out, including a Grand Prize (Minister of Education Award), two Excellent Awards, and several corporate awards.

Additionally, teams that did not progress to the finals will still receive recognition through special awards such as the SDGs Encouragement Award and Innovation Encouragement Award.
