JCOM Partners with Osaka Gas and Daigas Energy for Virtual PPA Initiative in Carbon Neutrality

JCOM's Strategic Partnership with Osaka Gas and Daigas Energy

In a significant move towards achieving carbon neutrality, JCOM, also known as J:COM, has officially entered into a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Osaka Gas and Daigas Energy. This partnership aims to supply environmental value to support JCOM's ambitious goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2030.

The Significance of Virtual PPAs

This innovative VPPA arrangement is set to commence in October 2028, primarily catering to JCOM’s operations in the western region of Japan. The agreement emphasizes the generation of renewable energy from newly constructed solar power plants, thereby enhancing the deployment of additional renewable energy sources, promoting sustainability in the energy sector.

In recent years, an increasing number of companies have embraced carbon neutrality targets, accelerating their use of renewable energy. However, the energy market has been experiencing high volatility, marked by drastic price fluctuations that pose a risk to long-term electricity pricing stability. As such, the need for secure and stable access to renewable energy sources is paramount.

Contributing to Japan's Decarbonization Goals

To support JCOM's initiative, the Daigas Group has committed to supplying environmental value derived from solar power facilities as part of their VPPA scheme. This initiative not only reinforces JCOM's mission but also contributes significantly to Japan’s overall decarbonization efforts. By fostering new renewable energy facilities, the partnership exemplifies the essence of additionality, thus aiding in the national transition towards a lower carbon future.

Moreover, Daigas Group plans to develop a comprehensive solution that combines renewable energy with environmental value, ensuring a reliable supply of renewable electricity to JCOM offices and facilities in the region, further solidifying JCOM’s long-term decarbonization strategy.

Daigas Group's Commitment to Renewable Energy Transition

Established under the framework of “Energy Transition 2050,'' announced in February 2025, the Daigas Group is leveraging its experience in the development and operation of renewable energy sources. They are actively promoting corporate PPAs, with the VPPA agreement with JCOM being a prime example of their commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The Daigas Energy division focuses on a triad of principles: Decarbonization, Decentralization, and Digitalization— collectively referred to as the D-Lineup. Through these principles, Daigas Energy aims to provide robust decarbonization solutions tailored to meet the evolving needs of its customers. The Group is dedicated to supporting its clients’ carbon-neutral strategies while contributing to the maturation of the renewable energy sector in Japan.

Through a unified effort, Daigas Group aims to address the challenges posed by transitioning to a carbon-neutral society while continuing to provide valuable resources and solutions in the renewable energy field.
