Fundraising for Earthquake Relief

To facilitate aid delivery to the most affected regions, Japan Reuse System has launched a special website dedicated to fundraising efforts. After a disaster strikes, conditions in impacted areas can change rapidly, and the types of support required can vary significantly by location. Instead of sending supplies en masse, the approach involves deploying a preliminary team to assess the situation on the ground. This team identifies which supplies and assistance are urgently needed and where to direct them.

Emergency Response Team in Action

On the very first day following the earthquake incident, members of the disaster NGO 'Yui', who were engaged in supporting the Noto Peninsula earthquake response, quickly mobilized. Late on July 28, the team departed for Kumamoto by truck, coordinating with local governmental and firefighting agencies to gather essential information about the situation.

By the end of August, employees from Japan Reuse System also joined the efforts, helping with recovery tasks.

Support Activities in Kumamoto

The main base of operations has been established in an area temple in Yatsushiro City, located roughly 30 minutes from Aeon Mall Kumamoto. The support activities include:

- Assisting with the removal of household items from collapsed homes.
- Setting up temporary showers and toilets for affected residents.
- Installing water tanks to secure a source of potable water.
- Visiting households to provide assistance with various concerns.
