Cox Science Center Unveils New Expansion: The Judy and Leonard Lauder Hall of Science

Cox Science Center Announces New Name for Hall of Science

The Cox Science Center and Aquarium (CSCA) in West Palm Beach has exciting news for science enthusiasts and families alike! They recently announced a substantial $10 million donation from Judy and the late Leonard Lauder, local philanthropists, that is earmarked for the new centerpiece of their expansion: The Judy and Leonard Lauder Hall of Science. This latest investment builds on the initial $5 million that the Lauders graciously contributed in 2023, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to nurturing educational experiences for the community.

A Landmark Expansion

The construction of the Hall of Science is part of an ambitious $10 million capital campaign aimed at enhancing the CSCA's educational offerings. With the expansion slated to be completed by the end of 2027, the 75,000-square-foot facility is designed to inspire curiosity and foster scientific literacy in visitors of all ages. Judy Lauder expressed her enthusiasm about the project, saying, "The Cox Science Center and Aquarium is such a dynamic and exciting place for children and people of all ages. With the naming of this new building, I feel enormous gratitude for all that the Cox Science Center has planned for future generations."

The Hall of Science is expected to be a hub of learning and exploration. It will include four immersive galleries featuring an aquarium, a STEAM studio for hands-on science activities, a hall for traveling exhibits, and a digital exhibit gallery. Additionally, guests can enjoy a café and four classrooms tailored for educational programs.

Philanthropy in Action

Leonard Lauder, who held the title of Chairman Emeritus of The Estée Lauder Companies, was well-known for his philanthropic efforts supporting education and the arts. Reflecting on his own childhood experiences, he once remarked, "Stepping into a museum was like entering another world… Experiences like that can be life-changing and, equally important, fun!" His commitment to the community has inspired many, and his legacy continues through the establishment of the Hall of Science.

Howard Cox, a representative of the Cox Science Center, acknowledged the profound impact of the Lauders' generosity, stating that it enables the center to expand its reach and influence within the community significantly. "This gift enables and accelerates our core purpose to fundamentally and sustainably change the lives of our youth by opening their minds to the wonders of science," he expressed.
