Algenesis Labs Celebrates 2025 Award for Innovative Biodegradable Technology Soleic®

Algenesis Labs Achieves Milestone with Soleic®

On October 13, 2025, Algenesis Labs made headlines as its innovative biodegradable polyurethane technology, Soleic®, clinched the prestigious 2025 Polyurethane Innovation Award. This accolade was awarded by the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), recognizing Soleic® as the standout technical advancement in the polyurethane sector for the year. The announcement was made during the 2025 Polyurethanes Technical Conference held in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Stephen Mayfield, the CEO of Algenesis Labs, expressed profound gratitude upon receiving the award, stating, "We are deeply honored to receive this recognition for Soleic®. It validates our mission to develop high-performance materials that not only fulfill industrial needs but also protect the environment." He emphasized the company's belief in the potential of science to tackle the issue of persistent plastic waste. This award reflects the collective effort of the Algenesis team and their partners in promoting sustainability alongside performance, aiming for a cleaner and more resilient future.

About Soleic®

Soleic® represents a breakthrough in polyurethane technology, distinguishing itself by meeting the performance requirements traditionally associated with conventional polyurethanes while simultaneously addressing the critical environmental dilemma of microplastics. Made from 100% biocontent and certified by the USDA as BioPreferred, Soleic® uses renewable, plant-based raw materials that do not interfere with food production or lead to deforestation. Notably, this innovative product is designed to fully biodegrade in compost, soil, and marine environments, breaking down into CO₂ and biomass—contrary to traditional plastics that linger for decades or longer.

Ryan Simkovsky, the Chief Technical Officer at Algenesis Labs, remarked on the importance of the award: "This recognition from CPI reinforces what our team has tirelessly worked toward. We have developed materials that perform similarly to traditional plastics but have the advantage of not persisting in our environment for hundreds of years." He added excitement concerning the polyurethane industry's embrace of innovations that foster tangible environmental impacts.

The Polyurethane Innovation Award is a commendation given to companies and individuals whose visionary efforts lead to groundbreaking technologies, products, chemistries, and processes that serve to enhance quality of life and further industry development. Eligible innovations must have been introduced to the U.S. market between June 2023 and June 2025.
