The Enchanting 20th Anniversary Concert of Nakamura Kana: A Celebration of Love and Music

Nakamura Kana's 20th Anniversary Concert: A Night to Remember

On June 19, 2023, Nakamura Kana celebrated her 20th anniversary in the music industry with a spectacular concert held at the Tokyo International Forum titled "Nakamura Kana 20th Anniversary Concert Chapter 1 - Feast-". The theme "Feast" draws inspiration from Plato's discussions on Eros (love), setting the stage for an event steeped in warmth and affection.

As the audience eagerly awaited, the sounds of Led Zeppelin's "Your Time Is Gonna Come" filled the venue, the lights dimmed, and congratulations erupted in applause. Entering the stage, Nakamura, dressed in a heavenly white toga, received reverent applause, signaling the solemnity of the moment.

The concert opened with "Aisaretai," a heartfelt song expressing the yearning for love. Nakamura conveyed her joy, gratitude, and complicated emotions surrounding her 20-year journey as she sang with an emotional depth that resonated profoundly with the audience. This set the tone for a nostalgic evening, as she moved through her early works including "Tori no Mure" and "AM Reiji," delivering them with a persuasive vocal power that added new layers of meaning to her past hits.

The rhythm section featuring bassist Masato Suzuki and drummer Kyōichi Shiino laid a jazzy groove for the entrance of special guest Dorian Lorobrigida, who dazzled in a striking red outfit. A surprise announcement from Nakamura revealed the release of Dorian's debut album, igniting excitement among the fans. Dorian also premiered the song "Saigo no Teikan" from her forthcoming album, showcasing her talent and charisma.

Next, Aoi Yō, a long-time friend whom Nakamura fondly calls "Anē-go," joined the stage in a segment dedicated to the world of kayōkyoku (Japanese popular song) in Nakamura's live presentation "Kayō Suspense Theater." Aoi’s powerful performance of her hit "Morai Naki" further energized the crowd, highlighting the heartfelt connection between the two artists.

The concert featured an interactive piano segment, where Nakamura invited the audience to shout out song requests. As she harmonized with requests such as "Yubikiri" and "Heya Souji," the joy in the room was palpable. The audience erupted in cheers as she began to sing "Konkai Dake Kitto," with another guest, Kaname Nemoto of Stardust Review, joining her on stage. Their lively banter and collaboration on the song "Shiosai Seiya," a tribute to the late singer Yosuke@HOME, captured the essence of camaraderie and shared memories.

As the concert approached its finale, Nakamura showcased her signature rock songs, exploring themes of gratitude for encounters and the complexities of love—emphasizing perseverance in loving despite uncertainties. Accompanied by talented musicians, including guitarist Yōhei Makabe and pianist Tetsuya Hataya, her performance celebrated diverse expressions of love, reflecting the discussions highlighted throughout the evening.

Closing with her debut song "Kegareta Shitagi," Nakamura remarked, "Please listen to the song that I decided not to debut with a ballad." She delivered a powerhouse performance, exceeding all expectations. Responding to the persistent encore calls, she sang "Tomodachi no Uta" with reflection, stating it was now a song of commitment to cherish important relationships. Finally, as everyone joined in singing her new tune "Morobito Kozorite," the atmosphere reached a euphoric climax, revealing the depth of connection established throughout the night.

In her heartfelt closing remarks, Nakamura expressed her gratitude toward her supporters. "Thanks to those who believe in my creations and watch over me, I have reached this day. Let's continue living so we aren't buried in the world." She concluded the concert with a powerful rendition of "Sayonara Jūdai," affirming her journey over the past two decades and her aspirations for her music career ahead.

Exciting news also emerged during the concert, with announcements for further chapters of her anniversary celebration set for late 2026 and June 2027. As a multifaceted artist, Nakamura Kana’s ongoing journey promises to be captivating, and fans can look forward to her continued contributions to the music world.
