Public Technologies Launches Sustainable Public Transport Project in Takasu Town, Hokkaido

Public Technologies, Inc., a GovTech startup based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, has recently announced the initiation of a new project in Takasu Town, Hokkaido. This project aligns with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism's nationwide effort to tackle transportation issues under the “Mobility Human Resource Development Framework.” The project, termed the “Kamikawa Region Public Transport Coordinator Training Project,” is set to commence in late October 2025.

Addressing Local Needs

As the population in Takasu Town ages, a recent survey revealed a concerning level of dissatisfaction among residents regarding their public transportation systems. While the needs for improvement exist, there seems to be a lack of understanding about those needs among the local community, transport operators, and government officials. This disconnect stems from both differing perceptions of public transport and the absence of a cohesive platform for discussion. Therefore, a common foundation necessary for discussing and implementing effective solutions has become a critical issue to address.

Project Overview

The “Kamikawa Region Public Transport Coordinator Training Project” aims to bring together residents, transportation providers, and government personnel to collaboratively develop a sustainable public transport framework that looks toward the future. The program will feature expert-led workshops and discussion forums that will help participants gain a comprehensive understanding of local transport resources and instill a sense of responsibility toward solving transportation issues. Ultimately, the goal is to establish a shared recognition of challenges and directions leading to the formulation of a long-term vision that will be reflected in local public transport plans.

Public Technologies intends to leverage its extensive experience in supporting regional public transport systems to guide the development of human resources, the establishment of collaborative frameworks, and the formulation of effective policies.
