Meijer Revives Baby Gear Recycling Program

In a heartening move, Meijer, the popular Midwest retailer, has announced the return of its successful baby gear recycling program, an initiative that garnered an astonishing response from the community during its inaugural event last fall. From May 4 to May 17, customers can once again bring unwanted, expired, or damaged baby items, including car seats and strollers, to designated areas in their local Meijer supercenters. In return, participants will receive redeemable mPerks codes, which can be used for discounts on baby products.

A Successful First Run

The initial recycling event held in the previous autumn was a resounding success, with over 13 tons of baby items recycled, equating to more than 26,000 pounds of material. This remarkable achievement reflects the community's eagerness to engage in sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner environment. Marlys Roberts, the Director of Merchandise at Meijer, expressed her excitement about the return of the recycling initiative, noting that spring is often the time when families look to declutter and refresh their homes.

"We are thrilled to bring back our baby gear recycling event, providing our customers with a convenient and responsible way to dispose of items they no longer use or that may be damaged," Roberts stated. "Not only does this create space during spring cleaning, but it also helps reduce landfill waste while allowing participants to earn rewards through mPerks. It's another way we aim to create value for families and sustainable solutions within our communities."

How It Works

Customers wishing to participate in the event can drop off their items at specified locations within their local Meijer stores, typically near the customer service counters at the front of each store. Once participants hand over their baby items, they will receive an offer code that can be applied to their mPerks account, granting them a 25% discount on baby products. This coupon can be used twice during the redemption period from May 4 to May 31.

The mPerks redeemable code allows customers to purchase various essential baby items at a discount, including car seats, booster seats, strollers, travel systems, bassinets, and playards.
