Huawei's OceanStor Dorado All-Flash Storage Validation
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, a significant technological milestone was achieved as the Enterprise Strategy Group, now a part of Omdia, released a validation report on the Huawei OceanStor Dorado All-Flash storage. This report highlights the adaptability and performance of Huawei's storage solution in our rapidly evolving data landscape, particularly in the era of artificial intelligence.
The era of AI has seen a massive increase in enterprise data volumes, drastically changing organizational operations and raising the bar for storage infrastructure regarding performance, resilience, intelligence, and cost-effectiveness. Many storage vendors have turned to all-flash solutions, relying solely on SSDs, but architectural compromises often make it difficult to balance performance, reliability, and costs. This report indicates that Huawei's solution manages to outperform its competitors by providing a compelling mix of high performance, robust resilience, and optimal ownership costs.
The validation tests were conducted in a simulated high-concurrency database environment, showcasing the system’s impressive ability to maintain ultra-high performance with over
876,256 IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) and an average response time of just
32 microseconds. This all-flash solution can manage diverse data types seamlessly, utilizing native and parallel architectures for blocks, files, and objects. Furthermore, its active-active configuration ensures continuous service availability, even during potential failures in data centers.
The architecture, dubbed SmartMatrix full-mesh topology, proves resilient enough to tolerate failures of up to seven out of eight controller enclosures without service interruption. Moreover, through its FlashEver technology, service disruption during storage upgrades is entirely eliminated, efficiently supporting next-generation convergence.
In terms of data protection, the system offers comprehensive smart protection features, including built-in ransomware detection for both SAN and NAS storage networks. The
DataMaster management platform enables automated system status assessments, the prediction of performance trends, and fault localization within minutes.
Over a
five-year TCO analysis, the New-Gen OceanStor Dorado All-Flash solution demonstrated the potential to lower total ownership costs by up to
64% compared to traditional hybrid storage systems. This result underscores significant savings in procurement, operational, maintenance, and energy consumption expenses.
Yuan, the Director of Huawei Data Storage Product Line, remarked, “This technical validation by the Enterprise Strategy Group reinforces Huawei’s continued leadership in storage technology innovation. Moving forward, we will deepen our innovative efforts and aid in accelerating the digital and intelligent transformation across industries.”
