Linc Housing Celebrates the Opening of Two Project Homekey Communities

Linc Housing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating affordable and supportive housing solutions, has recently inaugurated two new communities in Long Beach: Zephyr and Crescent. The grand opening, held on November 19, 2025, was attended by various stakeholders, including residents, Los Angeles County officials, and Linc Housing leadership. This expansion adds 177 new affordable apartments aimed at assisting those who have faced homelessness.

The state-funded Project Homekey initiative has been pivotal in these developments, transforming existing structures into permanent homes quickly and efficiently. According to Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, this initiative is a significant step in addressing the pressing homelessness crisis plaguing Long Beach, where the most recent count revealed 3,595 individuals experiencing homelessness—a 6.5% increase from the previous year.

Mayor Rex Richardson of Long Beach expressed his support for the project, emphasizing the importance of supportive housing in providing residents with dignity and stability. The Zephyr community, located at 1133 Atlantic Avenue, features 135 studio apartments along with two manager's units. Meanwhile, Crescent, at 5665 E. 7th Street, consists of 39 studios and a manager's unit. Both facilities offer community rooms, outdoor spaces, and private offices dedicated to case management services.

Zephyr and Crescent are designed to assist individuals in transitioning from homelessness to stability. One resident, Lashawn, shared her emotional journey from living without stable housing due to health issues caused by an unmaintained apartment to finding solace in her new home at Zephyr. Her story exemplifies the impact these communities can have in rebuilding lives and restoring hope.

Both communities are equipped with wraparound services, including mental and physical health support, job placement, education, and financial counseling. This comprehensive suite of services aims to help residents not only secure housing but thrive within it. The funds for these projects came largely from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, supplemented by other financial sources like the American Rescue Plan Act.

Construction work began in March 2024 and was led by Sparano + Mooney Architecture, Inc., working alongside Imperial Contracting. Today, Zephyr is nearly fully occupied, and Crescent is set to welcome new residents shortly. All units are allocated for individuals or households with incomes not exceeding 30% of the area's median income, fulfilling Linc Housing's mission to promote stability and opportunities for all.
