Saguri Corp and Japan GAP Association Start Joint Research on GHG Emission Visualization

Joint Research on GHG Emission Visualization Begins

Saguri Corporation, a notable player in the agricultural tech industry, has announced a collaborative venture with the Japan GAP Association. This initiative aims to visualize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from JGAP certified farms, contributing significantly to the decarbonization effort in agriculture. The move comes as pressure increases globally to reduce carbon footprints across various sectors, including agriculture, where the challenges of quantifying efforts made by producers often hinder progress.

Background

In the context of global decarbonization trends, it has become essential for the agricultural sector to address GHG emissions effectively. Farmers face challenges in demonstrating their efforts, such as reducing nitrogen fertilizer usage, managing soil sustainably, and implementing energy-saving practices. Such difficulties can make it harder for producers to stay motivated and innovative towards sustainability while increasing the burden on them.

Objectives of the Joint Research

The collaboration intends to utilize existing structures of the JGAP system, focusing on two principal objectives:

1. Standardization and Visualization of GHG Emission Data
The aim is to link activity data from JGAP certified farms with Saguri's advanced technologies to visualize emissions per farm. By simplifying the measurement and management of emissions, the initiative seeks to improve farm management and provide useful insights for producers.

2. Visibility and Evaluation of Producer Efforts
Creating a framework where the efforts of producers can be visualized in data formats will lead to a new market for products labeled as 'environmentally considerate agricultural goods.' This approach will consider not only GHG emissions but also the 'removal amounts' related to carbon storage, striving for a more comprehensive evaluation. The goal is to establish a system where producers can balance sustainable management with the creation of environmental value.

Upcoming Developments - Establishment of Research Society

To materialize these initiatives, a research society will be formed, comprising JGAP certified farms and member companies. Participants will be recruited from November to December, paving the way for experimental assessments and method evaluations. The intention is to develop a reliable framework where producers’ efforts are appreciated, enabling companies to procure environmental values with confidence.

Symposium Announcement - GAP Japan 2025

Moreover, prior to kicking off the joint research project, the Japan GAP Association is set to unveil the research's concepts and trajectories at the "GAP Japan 2025" symposium scheduled for November 14, 2025. CEO Hiroshi Ogino will announce the initiative during the event, while CTO Naoya Makino from Saguri Corporation will present their satellite data utilization technology and the methodology behind visualizing GHG emissions. The symposium will also feature contributions from policy leaders and agricultural managers, along with video messages from global experts, fostering a comprehensive discussion on the future of sustainable agriculture. Everyone is encouraged to participate.
