Olympus Unveils VISERA™ S Imaging Platform for Enhanced ENT and Urological Diagnostics in the U.S.

Olympus Launches VISERA™ S OTV-S500 Imaging Platform in the U.S.

Olympus Corporation, a well-respected name in medical technology, recently announced the U.S. launch of its cutting-edge VISERA™ S OTV-S500 imaging platform. This new system integrates advanced diagnostic tools suitable for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) as well as urological applications, providing clinicians with the flexibility they need in both office and outpatient settings.

Advanced Diagnostic Capabilities

The VISERA S platform stands out due to its built-in illumination system, which allows practitioners to seamlessly switch between various lighting modes, including white light, stroboscopy, and Narrow Band Imaging™ (NBI™). This versatility enhances the ability to visualize, characterize, and treat conditions such as vocal fold polyps, glottic cancer, and non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

User-Friendly Design

Designed with user efficiency in mind, the VISERA S facilitates quick transitions between imaging tools, boasting compatibility with a wide array of endoscopes. Its compact design is particularly beneficial, allowing it to fit smoothly into existing office and outpatient environments.

Improved Image Quality

Olympus emphasizes its commitment to diagnostic innovation with the release of VISERA S, which offers superior image quality compared to the previous CV-170 model. A notable feature is the pre-freeze function, which captures sharp images during critical moments. Additionally, this platform can record video, integrating seamlessly with Olympus' nCare™ medical recorder and VaultStream™ medical content management system. Through these tools, healthcare providers can capture high-quality recordings and generate comprehensive procedural records that are accessible and shareable throughout medical facilities.

A Step Towards More Efficient Procedures

According to Richard Reynolds, President of the Medical Systems Group at Olympus Corporation of the Americas, the VISERA S was developed to enhance both procedural efficiency and cost-effectiveness. By incorporating functionalities to accommodate a broad spectrum of endoscopes and multiple lighting systems within one platform, the system optimizes workflow. The capability to collect and disseminate patient data from a single system represents a significant advancement in healthcare efficiency.

Stroboscopy and Urology Applications

The VISERA S video system's compatibility extends to various flexible and rigid endoscopes, including diagnostic and therapeutic video rhinolaryngoscopes. The integrated stroboscopy mode can be activated through a software upgrade, enabling an ENT specialist to monitor the vocal cords' mucosal surface and identify subtle changes in vibration.

In terms of urology, the VISERA S system supports high-definition camera heads, flexible ureteroscopes, and other advanced videoscopes. With improved color and resolution capabilities, it allows for greater visibility of fine vascular structures. The embedded NBI™ technology, now standard with the VISERA S, is linked to a reduced likelihood (37%) of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer recurrence within 12-35 months.

Important Considerations

While the VISERA™ S Video System Center has notable applications, it is important to note that it is not intended for cardiac procedures. Using incorrect equipment combinations could lead to severe complications for patients. Comprehensive indications, contraindications, and cautionary details are provided in the accompanying Instruction For Use (IFU).
