Huawei and China Telecom Receive GLOMO Award for Enhancing Youth Education Opportunities

Huawei and China Telecom Win GSMA GLOMO for Enhancing Lives of Young People

Huawei and China Telecom have proudly earned the prestigious GSMA GLOMO award for Best Mobile Innovation, specifically for their groundbreaking initiative aimed at improving educational opportunities for children and young people. This recognition was bestowed during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona and falls under the Tech4Good category.

The accolade celebrates the Qingjiao Plan, which operates in the remote Langcang County of China. This innovative project, developed by the China Social Entrepreneur Foundation (CSEF) and launched in 2019, leverages China Telecom's advanced 5G network alongside Huawei's WeLink platform. Its primary objective is to furnish rural students and teachers lacking proper resources with vital educational tools and a supportive online community.

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Qingjiao Plan addresses the educational inequities prevalent between urban and rural areas. According to Cui Yangyang, Director of the TECH4ALL Program Office for Huawei, the initiative empowers young learners in underprivileged regions by providing them with essential learning resources necessary for success in the increasingly digital landscape.

So far, the Qingjiao Plan has trained nearly 180,000 rural teachers across China, indirectly benefiting millions of students. In Langcang County specifically, 600 primary and secondary educators have received training, positively impacting around 5,000 students. The effectiveness of the program was validated by feedback from the GLOMO judging panel, which consists of over 200 independent experts from various sectors globally. They commended the project for its impressive scale and its potential for substantial impact.

In collaboration with government support, CSEF plays a critical role in this initiative by identifying exemplary teachers throughout China who share their expertise online and disseminate educational resources. This strategy aims to equip rural educators with the tools needed to improve student outcomes effectively.

Huawei's contribution lies in the deployment of its WeLink platform, part of its TECH4ALL digital inclusion program. This interactive online teaching platform is designed to connect schools, instructors, and students, allowing learners from resource-stripped areas to access remote multimedia lessons and experience educational opportunities akin to their urban counterparts.

Moreover, China Telecom complements this effort by providing a robust 5G and optical network infrastructure, ensuring nationwide connectivity for rural communities. Their network solution integrates campus 5G and Wi-Fi networks, facilitating seamless connectivity and the secure management of various device terminals across both mobile and fixed networks.

Additionally, the Huawei TECH4ALL Skills on Wheels campaign was also recognized during this year’s awards, highlighting the organization's commitment to social responsibility in marketing.
