Stanford Hospital's Remarkable Achievement in Maternity Care
For the fifth consecutive year,
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, part of
Stanford Medicine Children's Health, has proudly received the prestigious designation of "high performance" in maternity care from
U.S. News & World Report. This esteemed recognition is awarded to less than half of the hospitals evaluated across the country and is reserved for those demonstrating the highest standards in uncomplicated pregnancy care.
This accolade highlights the exceptional services provided by the
Stanford Medicine Children's Health Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services, which specializes in labor and delivery care for expectant mothers. U.S. News evaluates hospitals based on various criteria, including cesarean rates, early elective delivery rates, newborn complication rates, support for breastfeeding, and the availability of vaginal births after cesarean sections.
Dr. Yasser El-Sayed, head of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics division at Stanford Medicine, expressed the significance of this recognition. He stated, "This acknowledgment for the fifth year is a testament to our team's profound dedication and unmatched expertise, striving tirelessly to improve outcomes and the well-being of mothers and families in our community. This award underscores the trust our community places in us and highlights our ongoing efforts to provide compassionate and innovative care. At Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, we take pride in being a beacon of excellence in maternity services and continually adapt and grow to meet the needs of our patients."
The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings for maternity evaluate maternity and perinatal care quality and compare over 800 participating US hospitals. Less than half achieved the designation of "High Performance." The rankings methodology considers various quality measures, including patient outcomes such as mortality rates and infections, available clinical resources, and adherence to best practices. These rankings serve as a vital resource for expectant parents, helping them assess key safety measures, services, amenities, and the availability of childbirth preparation classes.
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital continues to be ranked among the top children's hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and remains steadfast in its mission to provide exceptional maternity care to pregnant women and children. This recognition reinforces our commitment to excellence, health, and the well-being of our community.
