Chitose Friendship Association's Cultural Initiative at the 2026 Okayama Kinoko Film Festival
On March 14, 2026, children from three facilities under the Chitose Friendship Association—Joto Child Center, Tsukinokasato Childcare Center, and Green Nagari Childcare Center—made their debut at the Okayama Kinoko Film Festival, hosted by Okayama Broadcasting Corporation (OHK). Since its inception in 2015, this event aims to immerse children in global cultures and customs through the power of film. This year, short films from Japan and Europe targeted at children were showcased, providing a unique educational experience.
Prior to the screenings, the children took to the stage to perform songs, dances, and sign language, captivating the audience with their energy and enthusiasm. This interaction not only spread smiles and joy but also allowed the kids to experience the allure of cinema firsthand.
Background and Purpose
The Chitose Friendship Association prioritizes not just day-to-day childcare but also enriching children's emotional and expressive capabilities through engagement with the community and cultural experiences. The objectives of participating in the film festival included:
- - To provide children with opportunities to perform in front of large audiences
- - To expose them to diverse cultures and values from around the world
- - To encourage active participation in local cultural events
- - To allow parents to share and create memorable experiences together with their children.
As a prominent social welfare institution, the Chitose Friendship Association operates approximately 70 facilities with around 5,000 children nationwide. In the Okayama area, they continue to promote a wide range of activities, including food education, nature experiences, community exchanges, and participation in cultural events.
Event Highlights
The children from the three facilities performed on a three-part stage, showcasing a variety of performances in front of festival attendees. Their performances were met with rapturous applause, and despite their nerves, the children displayed remarkable poise. After the event, many expressed their excitement, with comments like, "It was so fun!" Parents also shared positive reflections, stating, "It was a wonderful keepsake" and "I could really sense my child's growth." This experience not only boosted the children's confidence but also created lasting memories for the participating families.
