ZiGGY Selected for Pilot in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, AL
In a significant step towards enhancing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, EV Safe Charge Inc. has announced the selection of its innovative mobile charging robot, ZiGGY®, for a pilot program in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This initiative receives support from several key organizations including Alabama Power, Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator, the AMP Center at The University of Alabama, and Innovation Depot.
The pilot program began with demonstrations at the AMP Center on December 5 and will continue at Innovation Depot during the Founder Fest event on December 10-11. The main goal of this pilot is to showcase the capabilities of ZiGGY in real-world locations, addressing one of the most pressing challenges in the EV industry: the need for accessible and scalable charging solutions.
Caradoc Ehrenhalt, Founder and CEO of EV Safe Charge, emphasized the vision behind ZiGGY, stating, "ZiGGY was developed to tackle one of the EV industry's largest hurdles concerning accessible charging infrastructure. We are excited to partner with progressive organizations in Alabama to demonstrate how ZiGGY can meet the diverse charging needs of electric vehicles."
ZiGGY sets itself apart as a pioneering mobile robotic charging solution that autonomously delivers power to parked vehicles, thereby eliminating the necessity for extensive reworking of current infrastructure. This innovative approach follows a successful pilot in Barcelona, Spain, earlier this year, showcasing the potential of ZiGGY in varied environments to promote clean energy adoption further.
Supporting this pilot, Hasin Gandhakwala, electric transportation manager at Alabama Power, stated, "As a company, we strive to foster innovation that will shape the future of energy and benefit our customers. Our involvement in the ZiGGY pilot exemplifies our dedication to advancing solutions that improve the EV experience and reinforce Alabama's position within the EV industry."
The partnership highlights how collaboration among industry leaders and local tech ecosystems facilitates improved EV charging experiences while also contributing to the convenience for users. Michael Malley, Manager of Strategic Research Partnerships at the Alabama Transportation Institute, emphasized the importance of such joint efforts. "The ZiGGY pilot exemplifies how we can leverage our collective expertise to enhance the EV landscape and drive significant impacts within our communities."
Matthew Jaeh, Managing Director of Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator, expressed his enthusiasm for working with EV Safe Charge. "It's thrilling to witness the innovations they are bringing to the table. I believe that the public will be inspired by the forward momentum in EV charging technology being represented in this pilot."
Brooke Gillis, CEO of Innovation Depot, added that they are proud to host the ZiGGY pilot at their facility, recognizing the importance of collaboration in advancing such technologies. "We are grateful to Alabama Power for selecting us as the venue for this pilot and are excited to support startups like EV Safe Charge as they work towards revolutionary changes in the EV sector."
As the demand for electric vehicles and charging solutions continues to grow, initiatives like the ZiGGY pilot program represent an essential step forward, aligning with the commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The ongoing success of ZiGGY will depend on its adaptability and reliability in various settings, demonstrating the future of EV charging for individuals and businesses alike.
