The 2026 Summer Beach Access Program: A Creative Haven for Children in Minato

Free Summer Beach Access for Children in Minato

The Minato Commons, an imaginative space modeled after a sandy beach, will once again welcome children this summer in Tokyo's Minato Ward. As part of the lead-up to the November 2026 opening of the Minato Art Center, this enriching program will be available free of charge.

Event Overview
The Summer Beach Access program kicks off on August 3 and runs through August 28, providing engaging activities for children aged 18 and younger. This initiative follows the previous year's success, promoting creativity and expression. Participants can enjoy a wide array of crafting materials to create unique projects for their summer research.

This year's program includes exciting workshops, such as constructing a playground from cardboard and creating costumes to transform into marine creatures. Children will have ample opportunities to explore their artistic sides and enjoy meaningful experiences with friends.

Workshop Details
In addition to general access, there are special workshops tailored for elementary school students:
1. Build a Sandcastle: Led by Mizuki Watanabe (Set Designer & Architect)
- Participants will use cardboard to create secret base-like structures just like building sandcastles.
- Dates: August 4, 6, 18, 20, and 25, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM (5 sessions total).

2. Swim in the Imaginary Sea: Led by Yoshie Minamino (Playwright, Director & Costume Designer)
- Children will repurpose discarded items to design costumes inspired by imaginary sea creatures.
- Date: August 25, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

Venue & Accessibility
The event will take place at the third floor of the former Mita Library, located at 5-28-4 Shiba, Minato Ward, Tokyo.
The activities are aimed at elementary students and up, with a mission to provide joy and inspiration through hands-on creation. All activities are entirely free, reinforcing the community spirit and cooperation among families and friends.

Registration
Since some workshops require prior registration, interested participants are encouraged to check the Minato Art Center’s website for updates and registration details:
