Veteran Ventures Capital Fuels Radian Forge with $2.5 Million to Boost U.S. Naval Manufacturing

In a strategic move to strengthen the United States' maritime industrial base, Veteran Ventures Capital (VVC) has announced a significant investment of $2.5 million in Radian Forge. This funding, which is part of a Series Seed Preferred financing round, aims to enhance Radian Forge's advanced manufacturing capabilities crucial for U.S. naval, maritime, and defense applications.

Based in Portsmouth, Virginia, Radian Forge is at the forefront of adopting innovative production methods, specifically through large-format Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). This cutting-edge approach enables the company to create large-scale, precision-grade metal components that are essential for the naval and defense sectors. Notably, this manufacturing process offers substantial advantages, including a notable reduction in production lead times—ranging from 40% to 80%—while maintaining high material quality equivalent to castings and forgings. Each WAAM robot can operate efficiently with a single operator, further streamlining production.

Joshua Weed, General Partner at Veteran Ventures Capital, who will also join Radian Forge's Board of Directors, emphasized the critical need for a robust domestic manufacturing base to support naval power. He remarked, "The United States cannot sustain naval power or rebuild its fleets without a responsive manufacturing base capable of producing critical components at the speed of the mission." This investment provides Radian Forge the necessary resources to address this urgent requirement and significantly contribute to the defense industrial ecosystem.

As the U.S. government strives to enhance its shipbuilding and repair capacities, VVC's funding will enable Radian Forge to rapidly scale its operations. Jeff Yeager, Radian's CEO and a former U.S. Marine, stated, "America has spent decades accepting manufacturing timelines that no longer match the urgency of the mission... This investment allows us to move faster and scale that capability." Yeager highlighted the importance of moving critical components into the hands of their customers in a matter of weeks instead of months.

The investment comes in the wake of the Commonwealth of Virginia's announcement that Radian Forge would embark on a $10.5 million expansion of its Portsmouth operations, creating 53 new jobs. This initiative received further support through a $265,000 Opportunity Fund grant. The Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC) also played a part by participating in this financing round, thereby reinforcing the state's commitment to enhancing its maritime industry.

Veteran Ventures Capital is dedicated to investing in dual-use national security technologies, often focusing on companies with veteran leadership. Its portfolio encompasses a range of high-growth companies within sectors such as defense, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and cybersecurity, illustrating VVC’s commitment to U.S. technological superiority.

Similarly, Radian Forge is driven by the mission of revitalizing U.S. defense manufacturing by restoring speed, scale, and resilience. As a leader in large-format WAAM, Radian Forge is well-positioned to meet the rising demand for military and defense components, further solidifying its role in national security. The strategic investment from Veteran Ventures Capital not only reflects confidence in Radian Forge's innovative approach but also underlines the pivotal role of veteran-led enterprises in revitalizing the American defense landscape.

As the maritime sector faces evolving challenges, partnerships like the one between VVC and Radian Forge highlight a proactive approach to manufacturing that aligns closely with national defense priorities. With a foundation in veteran expertise and a commitment to innovation, this collaboration is set to pave new pathways for the U.S. maritime and defense industries, ensuring they remain at the forefront in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
