Canadian Solar and Aypa Power Expand Partnership for Ontario Battery Storage Projects

Canadian Solar and Aypa Power Expanding Battery Storage in Ontario

On October 1, 2025, Canadian Solar Inc. announced a pivotal partnership between its subsidiary e-STORAGE and Aypa Power, focusing on the development of two large-scale battery storage projects in Ontario, namely the Elora and Hedley facilities. This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing the energy infrastructure of the province, addressing rising energy demands and supporting the reliability of its electric grid.

Overview of the Partnership

The joint effort between e-STORAGE and Aypa Power will yield a combined total of 420 MW and 2,122 MWh of energy storage capacity. Once operational, these facilities will become some of the largest of their kind in Ontario, underscoring the province’s commitment to integrating significant energy storage solutions. This strategic partnership highlights Ontario’s increasing focus on large-scale energy storage projects and positions it well for future energy needs.

Canadian Solar’s e-STORAGE will deploy its advanced SolBank technology at both sites, supported by 20-year Long-Term Service Agreements (LSTAs). These agreements are designed to ensure continuous monitoring, preventive maintenance, and performance guarantees, contributing to the ongoing efficiency and reliability of the facilities. The delivery of equipment is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026, with commercial operations predicted to begin in the first half of 2027.

Statements from Key Executives

Moe Hajabed, CEO of Aypa Power, emphasized the critical nature of these projects for Ontario’s energy landscape. He stated, "The Elora and Hedley projects represent crucial investments in Ontario’s energy system, enhancing our capability to meet increasing demand and maintain a reliable grid. By partnering with trusted entities and adhering to the highest safety standards, we are creating assets that provide long-term benefits to Ontario’s communities."

Colin Parkin, President of e-STORAGE, expressed pride in this expanded collaboration with Aypa Power, noting, "These projects will deliver reliable energy capacity under the IESO's Resource Adequacy framework and reaffirm our commitment to the Canadian market. We’re excited to contribute to Ontario’s evolving energy strategy."
