Heilongjiang's Jixi City Hosts Major Culture and Tourism Promotion Conference

On July 8, 2026, Jixi City in China’s Heilongjiang Province served as the venue for a significant culture and tourism promotion conference. This event was a highlight of the eighth Heilongjiang Provincial Tourism Industry Development Conference, aimed at elevating the region’s profile as a top tourist destination.

The conference integrated local cultural elements, including Sushen Culture—one of Northeast China's earliest fishing and hunting civilizations. It not only showcased stunning performances but also underscored the importance of Jixi as a focal point in the cultural landscape of Heilongjiang. According to Xu Peng, vice chairman of the World Tourism Alliance, China is dedicated to developing cross-border tourism, highlighting Heilongjiang’s efforts to establish itself as a prime tourist destination amidst a global spotlight.

Heilongjiang's focus on high-quality tourism development has accelerated in recent years. Particularly, the province aims to transform its cold-climate resources into a thriving economy centered around ice and snow tourism and summer retreats. Positioned as China's graphite capital and an ecological tourism hub, Jixi has tailored a unique approach to hosting the conference, strategically building upon its existing strengths.

The city has created a comprehensive tourism map, leveraging a variety of resources and upgrading visitor experiences through digital technology. This enhancement aims to broaden tourist markets by implementing consumer-friendly methods and promoting greater accessibility.

A series of activities were part of this extensive tourism industry development conference. They included a provincial cultural and tourism industry promotion conference, a national travel agency promotion conference, signing ceremonies for significant cultural and tourism investment projects, and field visits to exhibit the development of the province's cultural and tourism industry.

These initiatives have attracted industry leaders, cultural and tourism enterprises, and business representatives to engage in discussions around industrial upgrades and to explore fresh opportunities for cultural tourism growth. Participants were encouraged to share successful models for cultural and tourism transformation that can be implemented across the province.

Building on its distinctive natural resources, including forests, wetlands, and border rivers, Heilongjiang has initiated a "100-day campaign" for summer tourism. This includes the introduction of ten high-quality themed travel routes that are designed to enrich the tourist experience and foster an ecosystem of cultural and tourism consumption throughout the province.

The conference and the activities surrounding it highlight Jixi City’s commitment to leveraging its cultural assets and natural beauty, underpinning its ambition to become a prominent player in the global tourism landscape.
