D3Energy Launches Ohio's Largest Floating Solar Project in Monroeville

D3Energy's Ambitious Floating Solar Project in Ohio

D3Energy has officially begun construction on a significant milestone in the realm of renewable energy—Ohio's largest floating solar array in the Village of Monroeville. With a capacity of 6 megawatts (MW), this installation is not just notable for Ohio; it is anticipated to be among the largest floating solar projects across the United States.

A Vision for Clean Energy

This project, developed in partnership with the Village of Monroeville and styled under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), is set to make a substantial impact on local energy consumption. Under the agreement, the village will procure electricity generated by the array from Gardner Capital, the owner of the project. "We have been fortunate to collaborate with Monroeville from the inception of this project," said Stetson Tchividjian, Managing Director of D3Energy. He added, "Their vision and determination have been pivotal in bringing us to this point. Monroeville is stepping up as a leader in sustainable energy use, often outperforming larger cities and counties in renewable energy consumption. They are setting a powerful example of how a rural community can progress toward embracing clean energy."

Environmental Advantages

Utilizing Monroeville's existing reservoir presents a dual benefit: It conserves over 30 acres of land, which would have been needed for a traditional ground-mounted solar installation. Floating solar also brings environmental perks such as reduced evaporation and enhancements in water quality. D3Energy continues to partner with seasoned professionals to ensure the project's success, including Gardner Capital and local contractor ARP Solar, who also played crucial roles in the successful 2023 Del-Co Water floating solar development. Together, these teams possess a robust portfolio in floating solar projects and extensive experience applicable to Ohio's unique landscape and climate.

As construction progresses, the system is anticipated to be operational by early 2026. Once it comes online, the 6MW floating solar array will produce over 7,500 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy each year—sufficient to power approximately 700 homes. This output will more than double the Village of Monroeville's current capacity for renewable energy.

D3Energy's Role in Solar Innovation

D3Energy stands at the forefront of float-mounted solar technology in the USA. The organization prides itself on having completed more floating photovoltaic systems than any other firm nationwide and is committed solely to the development of floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) projects. With a focus on delivering scalable, land-efficient renewable energy solutions, D3Energy's initiatives stretch from Florida to California, demonstrating the adaptability and effectiveness of floating solar across varied climates and bodies of water.

This latest venture in Monroeville reaffirms D3Energy’s commitment to expand the possibilities of floating solar, reinforcing its position as a leader in this innovative energy sector. With the continuous emphasis on sustainability and renewable energy, partnerships like those between D3Energy and Monroeville signify a step towards a greener future, inspiring other rural areas to consider similar sustainable projects.
