e-dash Corp. Secures Contract for Greenhouse Gas Visualization Project in Shiga Prefecture

e-dash Corporation Partners with Shiga Prefecture for Sustainability Initiative

In a significant move towards sustainability, e-dash Corporation, headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has been awarded a crucial contract by Shiga Prefecture for a project titled 'Greenhouse Gas Emission Visualization Support Project - Decarbonization Management First Step - CO₂ Visualization Trial Shiga.' This initiative aims to provide localized support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the prefecture to understand and mitigate their carbon footprints.

Background of the Initiative

Shiga Prefecture has set an ambitious target of achieving a carbon-neutral society by 2050. To reach this goal, it is essential that local residents, businesses, and government entities collaborate effectively. Recent data from 2023 reveals that approximately half of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the region stem from the industrial sector, with a staggering 95% being attributed to manufacturing. This underscores the urgency for SMEs, which form the backbone of the local economy, to embark on their decarbonization journeys. However, many businesses find themselves hampered by a lack of specialized knowledge and the complexity involved in initiating such processes.

This initiative seeks to address these challenges through the greenhouse gas emission visualization support project. e-dash will not only assist in calculating emissions but also offer guidance for SMEs aiming to improve their competitiveness via decarbonization practices. A focus will be placed on assisting these companies in obtaining SBT (Science-Based Targets) accreditation tailored for SMEs, thus contributing to widespread decarbonization efforts in Shiga.

Project Support Overview

The support provided by e-dash will encompass several key areas:

1. Decarbonization Management Seminars (Three Sessions)
These seminars will cover the necessity of decarbonization, methods for calculating emissions, and strategies to set reduction targets. The seminars, structured in three parts – Introduction, Practice, and Application – will engage current SME leaders who share their experiences and insights on practical application.
- The first Introduction Seminar is scheduled for July 21, 2026, at Piaza Oumi in Otsu City and will also be available online via Zoom.

2. Emission Calculation and Reduction Support
e-dash will provide a CO₂ visualization support system to 50 SMEs free of charge until February 2027, focusing on calculating Scope 1 and 2 emissions. After visualizing the past year's emissions, individualized feedback sheets will be created to guide enterprises in setting reduction targets based on internationally recognized SBT standards.

3. Support for SBT Accreditation
For five selected SMEs, comprehensive support will be provided toward obtaining SBT accreditation. This includes assistance with data organization for applications, liaising with the relevant administrative bodies, and strategies to enhance brand reputation post-accreditation.

Interested participants can join online briefings or schedule one-on-one consultations at no cost to learn about the initiative's advantages.

Commitment to a Carbon-Neutral Future

Through this project, e-dash aims to tackle the challenges that Shiga SMEs face in their quest for decarbonization, ultimately contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral society by 2050.

Official Comments from Shiga Prefecture

Mr. Shuichi Mizushima, Head of the CO₂ Net Zero Promotion Division, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: 'Shiga Prefecture is committed to advancing decarbonization efforts as outlined in our CO₂ Net Zero Society Promotion Plan. Given our strong industrial base, particularly in manufacturing, accelerating the decarbonization of our SMEs is critical to achieving our net-zero targets.'
