Mediseo Launches New Tokyo ALC Logistics Center to Enhance Medical Supply

Introduction

Mediseo, a subsidiary of Medipal Holdings, has recently announced the inauguration of its new logistics center, Tokyo ALC (Area Logistics Center), which is set to begin operations in January 2026. Located in Koto-ku, Tokyo, this initiative aims to reinforce the sustainable and stable supply chain of medical pharmaceuticals in the metropolitan area. This expansion marks the 14th ALC for the Medipal Group, following the successful establishment of 13 other centers across Japan, which serve as a vital link between pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare institutions.

Objectives of Tokyo ALC

The Tokyo ALC is a strategic move by Mediseo to adapt to the increasing logistics demands and to tackle future supply chain challenges, particularly in terms of disaster preparedness and Business Continuity Planning (BCP). The facility will inherit the functionalities of the existing Tokyo Central FLC (Front Logistics Center), further enhancing both shipping capabilities and coverage areas.

Features of Tokyo ALC

1. Location and Structure:
The Tokyo ALC is strategically located in Koto-ku, with a total land area of 6,225.84 square meters (approximately 1,829 tsubo) and a leasing area of 17,667.09 square meters (around 5,344 tsubo). The six-story reinforced concrete building features advanced logistics functionalities tailored for medical products and equipment.

2. Disaster Preparedness:
The center is designed with resilience in mind, ensuring that it can continue to operate under emergency conditions. It features earthquake-resistant structures and an internal power generation system capable of maintaining operations for up to 72 hours during power outages. This will aid in delivering critical medical supplies even in difficult situations, positioning the facility as a key infrastructure supporting public health.

3. High Precision Logistics:
Mediseo leverages extensive logistics expertise combined with cutting-edge AI technologies and material handling equipment. This enables the center to deliver a wide range of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies with an impressive delivery accuracy rate of 99.9997%, adhering to the Six Sigma standard. This ensures that healthcare providers can rely on consistent and high-quality delivery of their essential products.

4. Innovative Urban Logistics Model:
Tokyo ALC is envisioned as a multifunctional logistics center, set to accommodate not only Mediseo but also other Medipal Group companies. This will create synergies among the group entities and enhance the overall efficiency of the supply chain. With advantageous access to major highways, the center will also expand its service reach within the Tokyo metropolitan area, serving districts like Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, and more.

5. Compliance and Sustainability:
The facility adheres to the Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines established by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2018, ensuring rigorous temperature control, counterfeit prevention, and sanitation measures in logistics. Moreover, the integration of electric vehicles and environmentally friendly operational practices aligns with the goal of reducing environmental impacts, promoting a green logistics model.

Financial Investment and Future Goals

The establishment of Tokyo ALC has involved a significant capital investment of approximately 1.1 billion yen, covering renovations, equipment, and other necessary infrastructure. The center is expected to achieve a shipping value of around 110 billion yen annually shortly after beginning operations.

With Tokyo ALC, Mediseo aims to not only enhance its logistic capabilities but also to set a benchmark for the medical logistics sector in Japan, reinforcing its role as a crucial provider of medical supplies during both normal operations and emergencies.

Conclusion

This new logistics hub is a noteworthy advancement in Medipal Group's long-term strategy to fortify medical supply infrastructure. By embracing innovation and prioritizing safety and efficiency, Tokyo ALC is positioned to lead the way in sustainable logistics within the healthcare sector, promising improved health outcomes and operational resilience for medical institutions across Japan.
