In response to the catastrophic flash floods that have devastated northern Nepal, Sewa International USA has stepped in with a heartening relief effort, pledging $100,000 to assist those affected. The floods, caused by a glacier collapse, landslide, and subsequent avalanches, have wreaked havoc in areas like Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. Alongside the financial aid, dedicated volunteers are on the ground, tirelessly working to rescue stranded individuals and provide essential emergency assistance.

President of Sewa International USA, Srikanth Gundavarapu, expressed the urgent need for help, stating, "Sewa has started a fundraiser, 'Nepal Flash Flood Relief,' and has already raised over $55,000 in just 24 hours. The tragedy that has unfolded in Nepal is heart-wrenching, with hundreds of lives lost and many more in distress. We must act quickly to alleviate their suffering."

The Impact of the Floods

The destruction is severe, with the death toll currently reported at 626, and more than 2,478 individuals still unaccounted for, including 777 foreign nationals. The floods have left around 93,000 people in dire conditions, completely altering their lives and communities. The deluge has not only claimed lives but has also demolished critical infrastructure, such as homes, bridges, and communication networks, complicating the already challenging rescue operations.

Sewa International USA is focusing on the most urgent needs of displaced families—those who have lost their homes and lack access to food, shelter, and medical care. The organization has swiftly mobilized an array of essential supplies, such as tarpaulins, foam mattresses, food rations, and medical supplies, to meet the immediate needs of the affected population. Within a mere 48 hours of the disaster, Sewa managed to rally resources that included thousands of packets of water, medical kits, and daily necessities.
