Adani Group's Bold Leap into Battery Energy Storage: A Game Changer for Clean Energy

Adani Group's Ambitious Entry into Battery Energy Storage

The Adani Group, a prominent player in India's industrial landscape, is making headlines with its strategic entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector. This move marks a significant milestone in the organization's journey towards becoming a leader in clean energy solutions.

On November 10, 2025, the company unveiled plans for a pioneering BESS project that boasts a monumental capacity of 1126 MW and 3530 MWh. This project, which is set to be operational by March 2026, will not only be the largest BESS installation in India but will also rank among the world's largest single-location deployments.

Project Highlights

The ambitious project will utilize more than 700 BESS containers, enhancing India's energy security while enabling the provision of round-the-clock clean electricity. By alleviating peak load pressures and reducing transmission congestion, the BESS will improve the reliability and efficiency of the electricity grid.

The project is being developed at Khavda, the site of the world's largest renewable energy plant. Adani Group is leveraging state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology, combined with advanced energy management systems, to ensure optimal performance. The installation aims to facilitate peak load management and energy shifting, which will be critical in transitioning to a low-carbon power sector.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, emphasized the importance of this project by stating, “Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are setting global benchmarks while reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability.”

Future Ambitions

The launch of this BESS project is just the beginning for Adani Group. The company has outlined a comprehensive roadmap to expand its energy storage capabilities. The goal is to deploy an additional 15 GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027, with a long-term aim of reaching a total of 50 GWh within the next five years. This ambitious agenda signifies the Group's dedication to creating a resilient and future-ready energy ecosystem in line with India's net-zero goals and global climate commitments.
