ALCARA: Revolutionizing Disaster Response with Multifunctionality
In an era marked by frequent natural disasters, the need for effective disaster preparedness solutions has never been more urgent. Aiming to address these challenges, the Toyama-based company, Aluminum Factory Co., is set to showcase its pioneering product, the
ALCARA partition, at the upcoming
Local Government Week 2025 event taking place from July 2-4 at Tokyo Big Sight.
What is ALCARA?
ALCARA is not just a standard partition; it is a versatile, disaster-response product that serves multiple functions. In everyday use, it acts as a partition, whiteboard, or even a table. However, during emergencies, ALCARA can transform into a bed, offering instant comfort and privacy to those in need. The construction of ALCARA requires no tools, allowing for easy assembly. This innovative product truly embodies a four-in-one solution, significantly enhancing the capabilities of temporary shelters during disasters.
Responding to Community Needs
In light of the increasing number of severe natural disasters, municipalities, schools, and public facilities face compelling challenges related to disaster preparedness. While no one can fully avert a disaster, improving the conditions of evacuation centers is vital. ALCARA was developed with a strong commitment to transforming outdated practices that leave evacuees sleeping on cold gym floors much like a century ago.
The journey of ALCARA's development started with collaboration with Toyama University and insights gathered from local schools that serve as evacuation centers. Conversations with disaster victims highlighted the urgent need for improved shelter solutions. ALCARA aims to mitigate discomfort and distress experienced by evacuees, particularly the elderly, individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, and children.
ALCARA's Contribution to Local Communities
Soon after its launch, ALCARA has already been presented to various crisis management departments across the Toyama Prefecture, including Toyama City, Himi City, Takaoka City, Kurobe City, Oyabe City, and Imizu City. Building on the positive feedback received from its debut at
Local Government Week 2024, the company is looking forward to further engagement with the public at this year’s exhibition. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience ALCARA’s functionality firsthand and appreciate how it can revolutionize disaster response.
