JA Solar and Masdar Collaborate on Revolutionary 24/7 Clean Energy Project

Partnership for Clean Energy

JA Solar, a leading manufacturer in solar technology, has marked an important milestone in its collaboration with Masdar by delivering the inaugural shipment of photovoltaic (PV) modules for the innovative Round-the-Clock (RTC) clean energy project in Abu Dhabi. As of July 2026, this project is garnering attention due to its ambition and technological sophistication, positioning it as the world’s first 24/7 gigascale clean energy initiative aimed at meeting the energy demands of modern AI infrastructure.

The Project Overview

Selected in 2025 as a key supplier, JA Solar will provide a massive 3 gigawatts (GW) of modules to support what promises to be one of the most substantial renewable energy projects in the region. Envisioned in the Al Dhafra area, the RTC project integrates a remarkable 5.2 GW solar PV facility with a vast 19 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery storage system, making it the largest of its kind globally. The ultimate goal is to ensure a constant delivery of 1 GW of baseload power daily.

Cutting-Edge Technology

The RTC project utilizes ground-breaking technology that marries solar generation with energy storage, allowing it to produce clean energy around the clock. This dual capability not only caters to the increasing energy requirements derived from economic growth but also establishes a vital energy resource for the burgeoning AI sector,

JA Solar’s high-performing DeepBlue modules are at the heart of this initiative, recognized for their suitability in high-demand energy applications. Their strengths lie in their ability to support continuous high-load operation while being resilient in extreme weather conditions—ensuring lower maintenance needs and seamless large-scale deployment.

A Response to Growing Energy Demands

As artificial intelligence begins to dominate the industrial landscape, the necessity for reliable and high-output energy sources becomes paramount. Projects like the RTC initiative are set to redefine energy consumption models, showing how renewable energies can fulfill the rigorous energy demands of AI data centers. JA Solar's strategic positioning in this sector reinforces its role as a pivotal player in the energy transition.

In a significant outreach effort, JA Solar collaborated with Deloitte during Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich to release a consequential white paper titled "Driving Greener Artificial Intelligence with the Green Token Indicator." This document outlined the integration of green attributes into computation units for AI, paving the way toward a sustainable computing future.

Future Prospects

Set to be fully operational by 2027, the RTC project signifies a leap toward a greener future, supporting Abu Dhabi’s ambitions to lead in renewable energy initiatives. JA Solar’s involvement is a testament to its commitment to harnessing solar technology to power the next wave of infrastructural advancement geared towards artificial intelligence.

As the global demand for clean energy surges to match the increasing appetite for computing power, JA Solar's progressive solutions underscore the crucial intersection between renewable energy development and the evolving needs of the modern digital landscape.

By innovating and providing top-tier technology solutions, JA Solar is not only addressing the immediate requirements of energy consumption but also laying the groundwork for a sustainable future intertwining photons and AI.
