Ritsumeikan University Hosts Special Lecture on Careers in the Age of AI

And-Dot Inc., under the leadership of CEO Yuta Ibaraki, organized a special lecture titled "Considering Careers and Work Styles in the AI Era" for students of Ritsumeikan University’s College of Information Science and Engineering. This initiative aimed to equip students with essential insights and practical knowledge ahead of their job searches, amidst the rapid changes brought about by AI technologies.

Overview of the Lecture

The lecture, attended by students of the information science program, was structured into three parts, each providing unique insights into the integration of AI in the workplace.

Corporate Usage of AI

The first segment enlightened students about the actual use cases of AI in various enterprises, showcasing five integration patterns ranging from organizations that fully incorporate AI into their business strategies to those utilizing it in isolated departments or without stringent guidelines. This analysis illustrated the diverse realities of AI implementation and its varying impact across sectors.

AI Skills Pyramid®

In the second portion, Ibaraki introduced And-Dot’s proprietary educational framework known as the AI Skills Pyramid®. This structured model identifies four essential layers of AI competencies: AI literacy, AI creativity, AI prompt design, and technical skills. By elaborating on these foundational skills, the lecture prepared students to understand and navigate the knowledge landscape necessary to excel in an AI-driven world.

Group Work: Future Job Roles in the AI Age

The final part of the lecture involved an interactive group workshop where students discussed which jobs might be automated by AI in the next decade and which roles will gain importance. This hands-on approach encouraged students to formulate their hypotheses on career trajectories in the forthcoming AI era, enabling them to engage critically with their future roles.

Student Feedback

The students responded positively, emphasizing how the insights gained during the lecture helped them reflect on their future careers proactively. One student remarked, "The idea that AI does not eliminate jobs, but rather redefines human roles, really resonated with me. The group work focused on 10-year job projections sparked important reflections about my career path. I aim to master how to utilize AI effectively."

Another student appreciated the focus on critical thinking, stating, "The discussion on why certain tasks are done by humans contrasted with what can be assigned to AI was particularly enlightening. Understanding the necessity of distinguishing between human and AI capabilities provided me with deeper insight into current work dynamics. I gained knowledge that goes beyond typical news narratives."

Comments from the Speaker

Yuta Ibaraki expressed his observations regarding the students' engagement and insights. He emphasized, "In my experience supporting companies in AI implementation, the most significant barrier often lies in the changing mindsets of individuals before technology. This is why I find students like those at Ritsumeikan remarkably quick to adapt and generate innovative perspectives. I hope they leverage this knowledge during their studies and embrace the idea of working alongside AI in their future careers."

Future Prospects: Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration

And-Dot intends to enhance its partnerships with universities and educational institutions, pushing for a society where generative AI becomes an integral part of infrastructure. Their future initiatives will include internship programs and educational resources aimed at providing real-world applications of AI knowledge to students.

As And-Dot aims to redefine the roles humans play in work environments, the company remains committed to fostering an ecosystem that allows individuals to engage in more creative endeavors in an AI-augmented future.
