Hexagon's Strategic Acquisition of CAD Service Boosts EAM Solutions with Advanced Visualization

Hexagon Strengthens EAM Solutions with CAD Service Acquisition

In a significant strategic move, Hexagon's Asset Lifecycle Intelligence (ALI) division has announced the acquisition of CAD Service, a developer recognized for its advanced visualization tools. This acquisition, which was officially confirmed on January 21, 2025, aims to integrate CAD drawings, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Reality Capture data seamlessly into Hexagon’s renowned HxGN EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) platform.

Since signing a partnership agreement back in 2013, CAD Service has established a strong collaborative relationship with Hexagon. The key product from CAD Service, OpenCAD, is already widely utilized, serving approximately half of Hexagon’s EAM Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) clientele. By incorporating CAD Service fully into its operations, Hexagon aims to enhance the overall functionality of its solutions and accelerate the development pipeline for their EAM offerings.

Norbert Hanke, Hexagon's interim President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this acquisition, stating that “this marks an important stepping stone for Hexagon’s Asset Lifecycle Intelligence division.” He continued to note that CAD Service's advanced visualization tools would enable Hexagon to provide customers with more integrated and efficient resources for managing assets in complex industries, such as manufacturing, energy, and transportation.

The evolving landscape of asset management necessitates a shift towards enhanced visualization techniques, particularly in increasingly 3D environments. By combining CAD Service's expertise with Hexagon's existing technologies, the ALI division seeks to address the dynamic needs of these industries more effectively. The integration is positioned to support clients in visualizing their assets in a manner that is intuitive and easily manageable, thereby extending asset lifecycles and enhancing productivity.

Located in Parma, Italy, CAD Service comprises a dedicated team of nine professionals. With the acquisition now complete, CAD Service will operate under the Hexagon umbrella, bringing its expertise in visualization directly into Hexagon’s asset management framework.

Hexagon continues to solidify its position as a leader in precision technologies across various sectors, transforming the industries that influence our day-to-day reality through innovative solutions in digital twins, robotics, and artificial intelligence. With approximately 24,500 employees spread across 50 countries, Hexagon recorded net sales of about 5.4 billion EUR.

As the company integrates CAD Service’s capabilities, stakeholders and clients can anticipate a more powerful and comprehensive suite of EAM tools that reflect the demands of contemporary asset management practices. Hexagon’s commitment to continual enhancement in its offerings remains unwavering, promising greater efficiency and effectiveness in the way assets are managed in an increasingly digital and visual world.
